Buying parts locally

A lot of debate has been going on here about supporting local business. I for one have supported many Australian shops during my resto.

I only ever ordered from overseas if local suppliers didn't stock the parts i needed. The parts i bought from OS were my crank, rods, pistons, camshaft kit, cylinder heads as these were for a type 4 engine conversion.

Everything else was sourced locally.

Vendors i supported are as follows:

Mick Motors at least $20k over the last 15 years.
Vintage Vee Dub Supplies- they have almost everything.
Classic Vee dub.
Das Resto Haus-body work and paint.
Dave Butler-gearbox and engine machine work. I have another gearbox being built now for the ghia.
Matt Berry Motor sports - for vintage speed parts: exhaust and shifter. Also paid for his services to help me complete my car. Thanks Matty.
VW performance centre melbourne.
Porsche Dealership for brake rotors
Swan porsche parts for my brake components.
Rod penrose performance parts.

All these companies helped out a lot and would use them again.

So all up with over $30k invested i can say that at least $25k of that budget remained in this country.

So there you have it. Thanks all.

This is my Volkswagen, there are many like it, but this one is mine. Without me my Volkswagen is useless, without my Volkswagen, I am useless.

Good stuff. I always try to buy from local companies as well.
Don't think I could put 20k through Micks motors though. Every time I go there I feel bad for interupting the lady behind the counter, even when there is no one in the store!
Give me friendly service and I will be every time.
Had very good exsperiences with the Busstop and Just Kampers Aust for parts and
Southside VW and Custom Vee Dub for service.

Agreed - if there is only a few dollars difference all good - if parts are more than twice the price then business sense must
be allowed to prevail without predjudice!
