1960 ghia info

Hi
Been offered a 1960 k.ghia as a trade for one of my non vw cars, it is a rhd vehicle with body off for resto. Apparently all mechs redone just needs paint and reassembly.
Any idea on what its worth as is? I have no pics yet but apparently some $$ spent. I love the shape and just trying to decide, so any info is helpful
Thanks j

Yeah know what you mean!
I am trying for pics and info and when i know more will update. It has suppisedly had $30k spent on rebuild and lots of new parts; all driveline rebuilt, brakes etc the body is still off with repair/rust panels supplied but apparently rest is done and car starts etc
I just love the shape so will get more info but after ball park figures?? $5k. $15k ????

Mine is a 60 it is a rust-repaired shell sitting on a chassis when I got it I spent $3k to get it but I now have a huge amount of work to do.
There was a complete original one in Sydney for sale for $8k that needed a full resto.
Just be really carefull with the body they rust out all around the lower panels.

Hey at least you will have an awesome go-kart to hoon on while you do your body work!

Be very careful, about the bodywork as VW 54 highlighted. Karmann Ghias were designed to do 2 things, rust and look pretty and they do bioth really well!

But putting a Karmann Ghia back together that possibly was not complete in the first place and you did not pull it apart is a very daunting task to put is back together, mechanically it is similar to a Beetle but all the windows, rubbers and door mechanisms are very tricky.

Happy to help with advice ,but being in pieces, are all the pieces there to put it back together and are they labelled??

Cannot put a figure on it without any pics, could be $5 to $15k???

Cheers,

David

Yeah it might be hard to spend 30k in parts on what is essentially a type 1 beetle chassis & engine build.

If you cost in some Aussie 'hard yakka' at $100/hr and factor it x2 for bludging you could come close, actually 30k is only a months work.
