Sale: SC14 Toyota Supercharger. Now on EBAY at $99!

Hi,

Had this puppy in my collection for a while, but haven't had the patience to put it to good use. Going turbo (lazy way) as opposed to sorting out pulleys etc for this thing.

I stripped it, cleaned it, refilled with clean fresh ATF fluid (general consensus agrees to this more affordable alternative as opposed to the original lanolin oil). No free play in input shaft, spins freely. Gave it a rinse over this morning with a wet rag to wipe the storage dust off. Don't worry, holes were covered by gaffer tape during storage. blotchiness on casing is only cosmetic, alumina (aluminum oxide).

As is. IE: No pulley, and don't feel like hunting around the folks house for the input and output plenum's.

Make an offer! :) phwah! Will swap for kombi box (Must be irs, not 3 rib 1600), good longblock etc, sea airplane floats, tinny etc.
PM me an offer.

I have moved out this yea and because i unbolted them and packed them in boxes in the garage when i stripped and rebuilt it a few years back. I just ahven't got the shed assembled yet to fit all my boxes of parts

Its a flat pack at the moment awaiting slab. :tu: Only a select few bits came with me for a sc14 feasibility study.

Found a mounting solution for the sc14, and includes the belt drive too. Jacee Alternator kit mount. Don't know if you can purchase iwthout the alterator. But the concept could be feasible with some modification.

As you may or may not be a aware, teh biggest challenge is the length of the supercharger from the fan shroud. sc12's are smaller, thus not an issue but are 200cc's less than sc14.

So what boost capabilities are available out of that blower? ie size engine for expected boost

The supercharger was factory fitted to 1G-GZE inline 2litre 6cylinder supras from 85 to early 90's. Toyota designed the SC14 to rotate at 1.25 times the speed of the crank, as well as produce boost at lower engine rpm. Also, the 1G-GZE redlined at 7,500 rpm.

So to answer your question, stock boost for the 2litre was a mild 7 psi. However, this was tuned for the 7500 rpm red line. Thus, if you had a 6000rpm red line on the veedub, you could increase the pulley ratio and spin the sc14 faster at that rpm (without exceeding factory limits of 1.25 x 7500rpm), thus more boost. It'll be safe to say that 10psi would be a nice round number for boost for 2ltr.

Furthermore: The SC14 displaced 1,420 cc per revolution, compared with the SC12's 1,200cc displacement. Toyota's SC14 measured 12.0 inches in length, 5.8 inches in width and 10.0 inches in height, and weighed 26.2 lbs. The outlet pipe on both superchargers measured 2.24 inches in diameter.

Cool....so seeing you may already have some of the formula's. Let's say you had an 1.8 or 1.9 litre engine, and say 5800 was your limit. Overdriving the blower may achieve what boost?

People have been running them on 3.8 Crapodoore lumps for years some upto 12psi.

THe SC12s are supposedly reliable upto 14psi so SC14 should be around the same, heat gets to the teflon coating on the lobes if your not careful.

I had mine upto 10psi on the bug but thats with the fuel mix going through to help cool it.
It still looks like new inside.

Hi Matt, did some calculations here they are as follows. however, assuming you overdrive the supercharger to ahve the same max rpm as in the supra application, you are looking at a whopping 20 psi! (doesn't include pressure/friction losses, give a generous couple of psi etc to be safe).

Assuming we don’t rev the sc14 more than the supra red line allows (ie: within design), for the supra the supercharger’s max speed in factory application (with 1.25 ratio and 7500rpm engine speed) is 9375 rpm. For a vw engine at 5800rpm, to achieve sc14 max speed of 9375, we require pulley ratio of 1.616. So… lets find the max pressure we can achieve .

SC14:

Displacement: 1.4 liters = 1400cc
Max Speed (in supra): 9375rpm

Engine max rpm: 5800rpm
Engine capacity: 1.8ltr (1800cc)

crank pulley to supercharger pulley Ratio: 1.616

1400 x 1.616 = 2262.4cc per crank turn

2262.4cc – 900cc(1/2 engine cc) = Extra flow of 1362.4cc per crank turn
1362.4/900= 1.513 bar (21.9 psi!!!)

For 1.9ltr:

Engine max rpm: 5800rpm
Engine capacity: 1.9ltr (1900cc)

crank pulley to supercharger pulley Ratio: 1.616

1400 x 1.616 = 2262.4cc per crank turn

2262.4cc – 950cc(1/2 engine cc) = Extra flow of 1312.4cc per crank turn
1312.4/950= 1.381 bar (20.03 psi!)

If you were to mount it in the middle with a direct drive then no sorry, its the bigger version. THe one your thinking of is the smaller sc12 (as opposed to sc14) which was the one Joel used.

If you could fabricate a belt setup with idler pulley (pain in the arse) it'll work well without recessing the fan shroud, but would take a bit of time and designing.
The 1400cc per revolution would be the fruit of your labour though lol.
