2442cc Turbo Injected Engine and Box (Albins gear set) *Engine and box Sold*

I'm sure I'll second guess my decision to sell my engine/gearbox combination that I worked my ring off for, but it's going to be 3+ years before I'll get my barndoor bus body ready for the engine, so I've decided to use the money I've got tied up in this combo in ways my wife and kids can benefit from rather than just me.....I still have plans to build a big turbo motor closer to when the bus is complete so plans are still on track there!

Seller: Al (DAS Resto Haus)
Contact: al@dasrestohaus.com.au or call (0417 645 854) if you are serious only [no trades thanks]
Price: $19.5K engine and box or $16K engine alone *Engine and gearbox Sold*

I have around $20K invested in the engine alone thus far - feel free to cost up all the parts below. It is new, never been run and has been built by one of the US's most well renowned turbo engine builders (Marty Staggs who is now the head of Turbosmart USA). The gearbox has been built by one of Australia's most recognised box builders (Dave Butler) using a full Albins gear set. The box was used for around 200km with my whopping 1200cc engine in my oval but I will cover the cost of Dave to tear it down to check it out despite not expecting any dramas at all.

Specs:
Case (CB Aluminum raise roof bored for 90.5/92mm with 7.5mm deck)
Heads (CB Competition Eliminators 44x40 valves)
Crank (Bugpack Flanged with 411 center main, 84mm w/Chevy journals)
Flywheel (Bugpack flanged)
Rods (Pauter 5.7 Chevy journal)
Cam (Staggs Racing custom turbo grind)
Straight Cut cam gears (Competition Engineering)
Pushrods (Manton double taper)
Rockers (Pauter 1.3)
P&C's (94 wiseco w/Cima barrels with total seal second rings)
(theres $5K plus so far)
CSP Valve covers
Racewear head studs
Competition Engineering Pulleys
DTM (Down The Middle) cooling shroud
Bosch alternator
Jaycee pushrod tubes
Welded balanced fan
Competition fuel pump block off, distributor block off
Jaycee oil filter and filter mount
Custom revmaster oil pump

Some of the labour from Staggs Racing:
Balancing and machining ($685)
Engine Assembly ($1350)
Custom Dual Disc clutch setup ($750)

Turbo system (all fabrication by Marty Staggs):
Custom Staggs Racing ball bearing turbo (have to double check on specs)
Custom stainless steel header (no muffler currently)
Turbosmart wastegate, blow off valve, two stage boost controller
Comp Eliminator intake manifold with injector bungs, fuel rails and clamps (no injectors though)
Custom mild steel intake system ceramic coated
Modified Berg deep sump
Silicone hoses and high quality clamps
Throttle body with Ford TPS
(Turbo system cost $7800)

Please note, no ECU provided.

Gearbox:
Swing axle type I with Sway a Way axles
Heavy duty side plate
Super diff
Full Albins gear set with ratios selected by Dave and myself to suit the turbo application (taller first) based on a 26in tyre
All the usual attention to detail and upgrades Dave imparts on all his builds

My brief to Marty was to build a reliable engine that would push an all steel beetle easily into the 10's so the above combo was what he came up with.

It's a lot of coin, but selling for a lot less than I have invested - if you want to get your beetle into the 10's then you have to be prepared to spend a few bucks :) Even if you have to buy a cheap beetle (if you don't have one already), you'll be able to embarrass your mates in their XR6 turbo utes and Skylines for under $30K ;)

Cheers
Al

$3.5K as is

Would love to have seen the turbo motor go into Rod's black chop top I painted a few years back, but I think Rod's got too many projects on his hands!

Haha, no secret squirrel stuff here :) We'll do the installation into the splitty DC some time next year before it heads home to the northern beaches of sydney.

If anyone is interested in the drag spec swing axle box, but with ratios that are still street able, I would take $3.5K firm on the box (with axles etc). The Albins gear set cost a big whack, so not really willing to budge on price.

Cheers
Al

Pity you passed it on Alan. :(

Note to self. Don't stop light race any split kombis here on the northern beaches. That goes for the oval and the WRX!
