1970 disc brakes on a 1965 Type 3 fastback? Please help
Hey all, the front drum brakes on my 1965 fastback need repairing, however I have sourced some disc brakes off a 1970 squareback and was thinking of
using them instead. Does anyone know if this will be a relatively easy conversion? Or is the setup too different on the later models? Any information
will be greatly appreciated. |

easy changeover. you just get 4 stud instead of 5 with the 70 model brakes.
ALL GOOD THINGS HAPPEN IN NEWCASTLE. JUST ASK A NOVACASTRIAN : !!

You need the stub axle as well as disc's, calipers, bearings and wheels. Also master cylinder should be changed.

The great thing about Type 3's is the interchangability between models on the mechanical parts.
You will need stub axle to grease cap on the 70 model to bolt onto the ealry control arms, just unbolt from the ball joints and bolt back on, you will
need the dual circuit master cylinder as well, the trickiest part is putting in a dual circuit brake fluid reservoir, but this is also interchangable
from the 70 modle.

Yes,
I would suggest putting a kit thru the calipers unless they wer working when you pulle dthem off and for safety chnage the flexible brake lines too.
Get all the lines to go with the brake fluid reservoir. Just makes it a lot easier!
