Unfortunately there are a million things that it could be,start with the simple ones-generator bearings-broken front engine mount or bracket-radio off station-starter stuck in...........................

remove the fan belt and start the engine. Is the sound still there?

If not then something stuck in fan, fan scraping on tinware or generator bushes are on there way out.

beyond that it's hard to say.

The sloppy gear stick is likely to be the shift rod bushing, use 'grasshopper' Joel's 'how to' to work you through it, its a cheap fix with a bit of effort that is well worth the time.
