depends

personally after a lot of experience I would go here first
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/VW-PORSCHE-DELLORTO-DRLA-40-CARBURETORS-/290754373...

or

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/VW-PORSCHE-WEBER-40-IDF-CARBURETORS-/290781052360?...

I would stay away from the single Webers unless you can pick up a progressive for say $200 as a complete kit with manifolds etc

From my own painful personal experience, I suggest not to buy used carbs! Either get brand new, fully rebuilt, or buy used ones that you have seen running on another similar engine. If you buy used carbs in unknown condition (like me), you may save money initially, but if there are problems with the carbs then it will cost you a lot of time, effort and money to get them sorted out.

depends entirely what your trying to do. ive had 30 picts on 1600 and ive also had the 32/36 on one. that one loved the juice. saying that the twins webbers ive got now are slightly more thirsty than stock but run well.

Kadrons, simple and they work. You can upgrade the linkage if you like but a new one should be fine. Webers/dellortos definately a step up but for a stock 1600 I don't think the gains are worth it. My 2c. Whatever you go for take the time to get them jetted properly.

You posted it twice and still spelled definitely wrong?

But your advice isn't that bad, Kadrons are fine on stock sized engines - but Webers look better!

Kadrons get my vote perhaps not the same power as dells or idfs but certainly easy to live with and tune, they would liven up a 1600 nicely
If you did change the linkage consider a berg linkage but i havnt had an issue with the standard one

Running kads on my bug and so far so good. I brought a berg linkage and the best thing is if you decide to go idfs etc you can keep the berg linkage.

Better off sticking with the single throat twin carbs like Kdogs or ICTs. dual throats are a wasted upgrade with a stock cam.

If you decide to go the ICT route PM me if you are interested in a good price on the Empi copy. Pretty good quality, but you might eventually want to switch to a twist linkage instead of the supplied cross-bar linkage.
