The Wino... 64 Beetle
Hey guys,
FINALLY got my first VW. Drove her home today and I'm f**king wrapped!
Will let the photos do the talking, hoping to install a narrowed beam, it came with some disk brakes that were on it, and going to lower it, then
enjoy it

Yeh, only rust is in the bottom of the engine lid, and was left there intentionally. Other than that its just surface.

Over the shoulder seat belts ordered from wolfsburgwest, should be ordering my beam & lowering kit this afternoon.
One thing I have been thinking is wether or not to run adjustable spring plates on the rear? I saw a thread recently on them, are they just plates
that let you fine tune the height? Is it worthwhile?
The other thing I hear with regards to the rear suspension is "clicks" (one, two etc), is this refering to rotating the plate around a spline or
something? Sort of need to learn this stuff if I'm going to do it, haha.

Bit of an update.
In the last week I've broken a handbrake candle, broken a wheel lug and a brake retaining spring. I also found the the drivers side gearbox seal is
shagged, aswell as that the links pins are frucked...
So unfortunately it looks like I have abit of work to do... on a lighter note all of my belts arrived today, and new beam should only be a week away

brother---- the link pins are meyle and no more than 12 months old and greased at every service ,they are certainly not FRUCKED as you say. Tell me
about the gbox seal ??? its a swinger and the boots are new , and please - how did you break the wheel lug ????????????
Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

You can shake the front drivers side wheel in 'n out about 1-2cms, passenger side isn't as bad but still moves noticeably. You can hear them clunk
when you go around turns.
The rubber boot where the axle connects into the box is degraded terrible (see photo) and is leaking gearbox oil.
As for the bolt, we pulled the rear wheel off because it had a puncture and repair that, when putting the wheel back on the lug sheared when we
torqued (120nm setting) the nuts onto the lug. It sheared at the bottom of the Allan key hole (this is what also drove the lug back into the brake
drum and snapped the head off the retaining spring). note, the damage to the tread is just where we used vice grips to pull the lug out.
I'm not trying to be malicious or anything dude, but the fact of the matter is this stuffs rooted, whether its new or recently replaced makes no
difference, they are still shagged.

Just reading more of your post Allbones....the link pins need to be adjusted on the inboard side. Loosen the pinch bolt and twist the linkpin with a
14mm spanner to tension to zero play, then grease. This should be done every service minimum with the front off the ground. Factory actually
recommended every 1000miles. If play remains, it's either worn linkpins, kingpins or both.
