LP/Swing Axles Susp/Brake Mods
Hello all,
I thought I'd start this thread for people who are looking to modify there link pin front suspension/brakes and the swingaxle rear end.
Anyone wanting advise can ask the question here if they wish but this thread would also be a good place for those that have made modifications to post
their idea's for others wishing to do similar things.
I personally am in the process of investigating the manufacture of a vented disc brake conversion for the Link pin hub spindle. As things progress I
shall post it here.
I hope people will find this thread useful as a localised knowledge base for earlier VW suspension mods.
Thanks
Mike

IRS Conversion
So for those who are wondering how an IRS conversion is done a few pictures to help explain.
This is getting the bracket to fit the torsion tube properly and by spacing it out from the framehorn means you can make a more accurate cut in the
framehorn. Fettling the bracket is a case of measuring the distances from the jig to the torsion tube and making cardboard templates of the bracket
and then slowly trimming the bracket down until it fits like above.
Then you can transfer the shape of the bracket to the framehorn using a straight edge from the bracket fitted up in the first photo.
Then you trim the framehorn until the bracket slips in nicely on it's jig and hey presto one side done and yes my pan is upside down at present but
enough room, just in my ickle garage
Now that one side is done you make templates of the fitted bracket to transpose onto the other bracket and this will mean less trial fitting.
