Regulator info needed.. 55 amp Bosch Alternator from 75 or later type 1....
I am chasing a replacement regulator for a Bosch 55 amp alternator. The unique detail is the long single spade terminal that comes out of the
alternator stator through the grommet/insulator.
The number on the Bosch regulator is 0 192 052 007.
The number on the alternator is 0 120 489 565 and the other number, possibly the VW number is 043 903 023 C.
I know that replacement no-name-brand alternators are cheap but I prefer to keep this Bosch one running if possible.
Can anyone advise a source, or replacement part number? I suspect that a generic replacement is available but cant pin one down.
Thanks.

43.2C in SCONE
they used to be on EBAY from the USA and expensive..
whether they were the same as that one I don't know
I can't remember the long single spade terminal...
That long spade terminal probably isn't essential... a wire coming out the rubber grommet would be OK...
its the dash light, which has to be connected for the alternator to charge...
LEE
If You find one I'd also like to know where to get them..
All alternators on VW engines I've seen are 51 amp not 55..

the long spade terminal is not critical for operation, but it identifies the regulator as its quite a unique feature. Other variables are the brush
length, brush spacing, mounting holes etc. So I wouldnt want to order something unless someone can state from theri own experience that they know what
can be substituted. So I'm not after speculation, just good expertise.

Hi
I not sure if your aware that the internaly regulated 55 amp alternator didn't appear until 1975, the 73 L bug still had a generator, the 74 had an
externally regulated 50 amp alternator, I thought that this may cause confusion with suppliers.
Aircooled net have appear to have them http://www.aircooled.net/new-bin/viewproductdetail.php?keyword2=LCH0004&c...

Ok, so it appears to be 75 or later as I have just seen one on a very original 76 standard beetle as well. So that narrows it down. That link
provided above is for the external regulator for comparison.
So I am still looking for a source for the Bosch internal voltage regulator for a 55 amp type 1 alternator if anyone can help.
thanks.

Hi
In the link I posted you need to select 75-79 Type 1 to get the correct unit, ignore the picture, drop them an email to double check, they are nice
people to deal with.
In the description it says "$24.95 For Bosch AL82X Alternator; also fits the new alternators (internally regulated) that come with alternator
kits."

Hi
I'm not sure, but make sure you get them to send it USPS, you could get an idea from the USPS website http://www.usps.com/
Its usually more cost affective to buy other low weight items at the same time.

Hi
How did you get on with this problem?
The reason that I ask is that I met up with Bizarre on Saturday and lent him a spare 75 model alternator that I have while he gets his fixed.
His alternator and my spare alternator used totally different regulators, my spare alternator looked just like yours.

And i was looking at classic and mine looks like theirs
http://www.classicveedub.com.au/
I was looking on the CB website and they have a universal regulator (for internal regulator alternators only) and that may be the way to go

1303 Steve, sorry for the late reply but thats how long its taken me to find something, after starting to search about 18 months ago actually.
After stumbling on some equivalent part numbers I found a supplier in the UK and ordered 2 for a total of $55 landed in Oz. Expecting them any day
now. Will let you know if they are in fact the right ones, otherwise I will pass them on to whoever.
Thanks Bizarre - I saw those ones but unless someone can tell me for certain they work I dont want to gamble $60 to buy 1 and get it here.
The reason I want to fix up the Bosch alternator is that it is the gen-you-ine item, I've already replaced the bearings, and its a single terminal
item. And its going to look just fine plugged into my new Jake Raby DTM fan shroud on the type4 2.0 litre lump I am building up.

I had the same Bosch regulator as yours.
"Ashdown Electrical" supplied a replacement.
code 45-41055 is on the box.
