Side stripping
Hey boys and girls,
I've seen a few beetles a triangular type of stripping on the side and was trying to find more info on it, like if it was a optional extra or a
custom mod sort of deal. Ive seen it called Aussie stripping before, any truth to that. As always, any help would be really appreciated.

Its called Australian Flash Trim.
Well... i think its what your referring to:

I have heard of reproductions being made. But other than that I dunno, someone else can update you on the history.

They were popular once, and it was my job to fit them when I was an apprentice at a VW dealer.
After doing a lot of them, I began to hate the bloody things, as they were very fiddly to get right.
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

I have an ORIGINAL stainless set I will be selling in about a month.
Going a different way. Very good shape for its age, a few minor bruises but nothing that wouldn't take a couple of hours cafefully hammering and
polishing.

C'mon kids gather round,
there's a new sensation hitting town,
It's moving straight, low to the ground,
it'll pick you up when your feeling down.

Aussie Flash Kit
available as a repro item made in indonesian or thailand I think? - bought into the country by Gary Collis at Wolfsburg Automotive in VIC about $550 a
set from memory.... and not 100% faithful to the original width, but still a good alternative.
Original sets sell anywhere between $200-800ish dollars depending condition and also required different/bigger retaining clips that the standard
trim.
there were a few versions of which the most popular is the one that has been reproduced, the version on the split beetles looks to be "home made"
they were made by a company that also supplied similar products to other car manufacturers like holden... and even a type 3 version or two...
here are some examples of the options, including the one with an aluminum insert that sits behind the trim.... very cool...

hope thats some help...
cheers Ben
