Recommended supplier.....or not

First, I want to clarify that I have no allegiance to, affilliation with or in fact previous dealings with the following supplier.

I have just gone through the process of buying an engine stand from Lindsay Smith, user yasdnil01, who I found after searching this forum. People are generally more than willing to criticise but not so keen to praise and in this case I want to highlight the great customer service he provided.

I sent off an email using an address on one of the posts, he's since changed it but a couple of days later I got a response. A couple of emails later, after choosing one of several options available I placed my order and sent off payment. The same afternoon he confirmed that he had posted the stand. The price quoted included $24 for postage, which I thought was reasonable given size, weight etc.

That same evening I received a refund notification from Paypal, which seemed unusual. It was for $4.69, you see the shipping wasn't $24.00 it was $19.31 and Lindsay had refunded my change. As far as I'm concerned the $24.00 was reasonable and it would also seem reasonable to include a few dollars for packaging and handling, Lindsay obviously felt that if he hadn't spent it he shouldn't keep it.

This level of customer service is rare. Aside from the service the stand also seems to be of great quality. I'm sure I'll find a way to spend the change, plus some, on some of the other tools that Lindsay makes and I recommend him to anyone else that is looking for something that he manufactures.

Cheers,
Dean

Yep,

I've bought a few tools off him and the quality of his work is great and the service equal to it.

Placed an order with justKampers at about 2pm yesterday, received by lunchtime today in regional Victoria. Pretty impressive.

I purchased an engine stand from Lindsay quite some time ago, I picked it up from his home as I was in the area at the time, great product although I found the wheels not up to the task so I replaced them with wheels of a wrecked shopping trolly that I pulled out of a creek near my home, at the price I'm certainly not complaining. Top fella and top product. :tu:

I've been trying to get hold of George at Classic for two weeks, phone is permanently engaged and going to the shop isn't an option as I'm in VIC. Does anyone have a 'secret' number or method of contact that may actually get me a response? Email... numerous, has also failed.

Good prices and when you get him he's good to talk to, but I have no idea how he stays in business.

I will add to the praise for Lindsays's engine stand/supports. Excellent value and very reasonable postage costs considering the size and weight and how far it had to travel to my house. Its a great product to go with the very affordable engine stands available in Australia these days.

I understand the frustration not being able to talk to him,i went through the same so i went there.

but he is the best guy for parts out there

Recommended supplier ..... or not

Okay, I'm all about supporting the little guy and buying local where possible and I just drove 30 minutes to do just that, but theres a line that once crossed means you're just taking the piss.

Wolfsberg Automotive in Geelong-

1 x Shift Rod Bushing, just the crappy piece of plastic $15.00
1 x 12V Voltage Regulator $85.00
Total $100.00

Sod that. Got on line and ordered from JustKampers, $75.00 which includes the $11.00 shipping charge. To top it off I'll probably get it tomorrow, Monday worst case.

It's disappointing, I guess some want to increase customer loyalty, others clearly don't.

I recently bought some bolts from them. they screwed up my order.

I offered to sent the wrong ones back and they said to keep them and said for me to donate them to a friend which the part would suit.

then they sent the right one for nothing :tu:

I've got a few things from Lindsay over the years.
The most impressive was he made up some 36 hp head removal tools, based on a link to a thread on The Samba.
He improved the design, and then charged bugger all to make the collection of parts and then ship them.
Put me down as a very happy user.
From memory I have bought from him:
- the engine stand insert (for my SuperCheap engine stand)
- the fuel pump setting tool for the 36hp
- head removal set for 36hp (sooo much better than belting the exhaust studs hoping not to break some fins!)
- valve spring compressor
- 36mm flogging spanner for rear axle nuts

In all cases they were fit for purpose, solidly built and I felt that I was undercharged for them.

I'll back up the excellent service from JustKampers. Ordered parts yesterday lunchtime and received early this morning also to regional Victoria. Will be my supplier of choice from now on.
