New adjustments to selling threads; Buying and Selling

New changes being made are that once you post an item for sale, it will close automatically, and therefore the importance of members including their correct contact information and details becomes greater.

If the person initiating the post wishes to leave their post open, then untick the appropriate box beforehand, but this may save you a few headaches and public unwanted comments that seem to be always popular.

Sellers make sure you check your U2U's regularly, and email address as well if selling, as people will respond via those two main methods. Sellers will be the only ones able to edit their posts(other than mods) so if additional information or a good question is asked, please then include the new information by editing the post.

Good luck selling!!

Any feedback is welcome here, as well as questions.

hmm i am not sure,

i just starting a thread selling some stuff and it seems i am unable to reply to the thread...that seems lame to me.

I also am unable to edit my thread (since i cant reply to a question via replying!).... even more lame.

Now if that is an error thats all fine, but else that is just stupid.

I dont see what was wrong with it before...

What would be nice is the option to close a thread once the item is sold.

When you posted, you are given the option of closing the thread in the last box, which is now automatically ticked, which you can untick if you please.

As far as editing, all members that post can edit their own post; yours shouldn't be different.

As far as why we did it; you need to ask? People were getting abused and criticised for posting items and prices that shouldn't have been. It is either close that section down as it can be more hassles than it is worth; or, make it Samba style, and place the ad, and thats it. Any questions etc can be emailed.

Thats what closed means.

You, the poster/creator of the post or thread, can simply click on the thread as if you were reading it, and push 'Edit' in the top right hand corner of the post.

Changed those two forums again tonight to have 'No Replies' by anyone, admin included.

We are just trying this all out, so please let us know if there is dramas.

Andrew, would there be a reason Donkey can't edit his own post?

I think replies are an important part of buying and selling. If every post is locked it will make people post a new post when their items fall off the main page.

I havnt listened in to all the troubles that have of been occuring with the buying and selling section, so i still dont really understand why the new rules are here but a buying and selling section heavly regulated over no buying and selling section is better i guess

also i cant find the tick box to make ur thread not locked.

cheers for ur efforts mods!

I think all locked would be great (thinking now), but unless all where locked it would make for people bumping.

Do it sorta like ebay...put ur item in and people can ask questions (via u2u) and sellers can edit answers in.

I hope not. It annoys me that some sellers bump all the time. What makes them think that their advert is any more important than all the others? Bumping sucks.

maybe if the writter is able to reply to their own thread that may work better.

Limited replies even better, to reduce bumping.

No editing allowed to allow for "honesty".

Option to delete or move (keep a record) a thread once the item is sold to reduce clutter.

i think that bumping should be permitted to some extent although excessive bumping is not right

if your thread is on like the 5th page, i dont think many people are going to see it, and they may not have been on to see it when it was on the first or second page of threads.

i can understand an ebay type system may work, where you just have to look through the pages. but if you have some stuff that just doesnt sell quick enough and it is now on page 15 or something like that, people are really unlikely to look there and isnt it worse to start a fresh post than to bump it?

what happened to not making multiple threads if you have multiple items? i dont think many people will want to add more items to their thread if it is pages down the list.

anyway, keep up the good work mods, i know you are thinking about ways to improve things and it is excellent that you do allow for members to express their views :)

i preferred to be able to reply to the threads if interested, also sometimes pointing people in the direction of somebody who ether has the part or wants the part. also if all the threads are closed how come one of the mods posted replies to several threads this morning.
im not whinging just curious to why.

I've noticed an unfair aspect of this that needs to be cleaned up I think. There have been some 'wanted' ads posted to which vw54 has replied (advertising Vintage) and yet non mods are locked out. I'm not trying to bag Dave but I think this good idea needs to be consistently carried out. Doesn't seem very fair to other sellers etc if this continues to happen.

ps: thanks for continuing to make this a better community!

My 2cents,,

I've noticed since the changes went in that activity has dropped in buying&selling. Are people simply going elsewhere? ebay?
Personally I liked it the way it was,, open,, now its a really boring area of AVD,, doesnt help you sell stuff if nobody is using it....

hehe everyone got there own idea...so heres another one from me.

Moderation privaledges to your own buying thread. So if someone is just spamming the owner can delete.

This ofcourse comes down to the functionality of the forum software.

I think there is one thing missing to make the new adjustments work fully. At the moment editing a post does not "bump" it, i.e. it stays in the same relative post sequence, despite the edit.

If editing a post did reset the timestamp, then a seller could add relevant information or e.g. change the price or e.g. reply publicly to an email or u2u received relevant to thew offer and have the post raised to the top of the post sequence as a consequence. This would also cause less "noise" on the forum than gratuitous bumping. Just a thought.
