As you would know, there wasn't much info around when I did my conversion (end 2002). I figured keeping a detailed diary on my website would help
others. Let's face it, it's cheaper to learn from other peoples mistakes rather than your own

Did the engine still clear the firewall when you moved the gearbox forward 2 inches?
Is this EJ20t,EJ22t or EJ25t?

there is ship loads of power, no wonder your done so many Ks They are so much fun to drive once your got the subaru power
Does your engine have some sort of mounting to hold it to the car besides the 4 gear box bolts??

After driving my superrex the engine lid is real hot to touch. about 60c you could cook a chook under there.far hotter then me 1916 ever got.
what sort of insulation do you use so the kids don't get to hot in the back seat???

I have been driving the car for 4 months now .my temp is ok ,my rear seat box goes upto the parcel shelf but my cut out in the firewall is a fare bit
lower so it seems to get a biuld up of heat from off the exhaust and turbo and it has no where to go , as the heat raisers and it gets trapped .

it still doesn't explain the hot decklid. Unless it gets hot after sitting there a while from the heatsoak, but not while it's running.

Jak, your shearing CV bolts seems very strange. Where they allen head or the proper 12 pointed spline bolts? Either way they should be grade 12.9
which is friggen strong. They shouldn't break unless they weren't tightened properly in the first place. In fact your axle should shear off (and
usually does) before those bolts break.
With the allen head versions there is more risk it might be a cheap chinese bolt that isn't the grade 12.9 that it should be.

2/What brakes are you running?

Well done Jak, Im tired from reading let alone having to write all that up. I prob should at some stage as there are subtle differences as to what you
need to do in a Type 3 compared to a Beetle but a lot of good info for people wanting the challenge. All I can say is do it!

get the GTR units on. 
Yeah, I knew you literally put that motor to (the garden) bed. Was wondering if you still had it out there for your neighbours to see. Im sure they

PS Re throwing an EJ20T in a Type 3, Im reeeeally surprised it isnt happening a lot more. Ill be definately be going that way eventually. Would have
done it this time if I hadnt picked up my motor/loom/ecu etc so reasonably priced!

Yep! After planning and sourcing all parts, GTMac's engine conversion took two days, drive-in, drive out... But not including the radiator
installation that was already done. A WRX is a very nice fit in a Type 3 Fasty or Notch - better than a Beetle; not as much metal to slice

I have been driving me superrex all week end and checking temp. the temp just seems to be heat soak on the left hand rear of the car from the radiator
header tank and the radiator pipe that goes close to the engine lid

Ok i added a couple of those flexy air tubes from auto barn to push air up to the intercooler, then wrapped exhaust pipe and added a heat sheild over
the top of the turbo , I stuck a temp sender in the rubber hose between intercooler and inlet. Running around today in 34 deg heat intake temps 48deg
on boost then comes back down to 39 cruzing along hwy at 115Ks
