guess it depends on how bad the front end is...this is my donor car...radiator and airbox were broke but didn't need them anyway:no:

Just make sure the timing covers are not broken . now days these above are picked up for around AU $500.00 . Chris , you would be able to get a 2.2 turbo over were you are in the USA

all i can find is subarus over 100k miles which i have been told to keep clear from and also all i seem to find is 2.5 dohc ej25 non turbo
i don't care about turbo as i would have to move it any way to make it fit in the engine bay
i seem to be finding ej25 for around $700 to $900 only for the engine from a company who imports them from japan.
as for a whole car they seem to be high milage or a complete wreck!
but thanksa for your input
what do you guys think to the ej25 engine

cant really speak for the EJ25s but the EJ22 are one of the most bullet proof subi motors and usually get to 300,000kms before needing any attention
thats 185,000miles in old money

The 2.5 ltr will be fine , you need to get a electrical harness & ECU . Can you locate a front cut ?

Look under the oil cap this will tell you the date of the motor ie: 94 ( 1994 )

The 2.5 will push your bus along quite well

ok so i went to look at a 92 legacy with a 2.2 engine did tapp for a moment but then went away once it warmed up as it hadn't been started for a long time the guy said
had a small oil leack on both sides of the engine around the intake manifold area?
also it was a auto not manual !
seemed sluggish but that could be just the box right?
and had check engine light on!!
is that normally a censor or what???
any info would be great on making my mind up
i had a 76 bus with 6 rib tranny manual
and looking to use a kennedy plate so what would you guys do been trying to find a manual but it seems very hard here!!

Check light on usually is a sensor. Some are cheap, prolly get one from a breakers/wreckers yard

You don't want a sluggish engine that's throwing a CEL. You want an engine from a newer car that has been totaled via a rear or rollover collision. Either that or a JDM engine from a car that is fine but tangled up in regulations.

if your feeling adventurous, connecting the diagnosis ports up will tell you which sensor is throwing a code

if you can get the car cheap enough even if the engines not much chop atleast your getting all the hardware that matches
you can always get a low milage jap motor for cheap as seagull already said
