Help with setting up a 28 Pict carb **new problem**
Hi all!
I've just swapped out my carbie as my old one was leaking fuel...
Just whacked the new one on (when i say new, its used!) and whilst i've wound things in and out and managed to get it started, if i put my foot on
the accelerator it dies.
Any ideas?
I've not adjusted a carb before, but i learn fast and have tackled other stuff on my car....so i thought it's about time i learned how to set a carb
up!
Now i know theres a screw on the left hand side (to adjust the air / fuel mix?) Is this the only thing to adjust, or not?
Yes...i know i need a manual!! I actually have the pdf of the idiots guide, but i must be even more idiotic than the idiot as i find it really hard to
follow compared to Haynes manual...and the lack of decent pictures in there is a bind too 
So if anyone can help it would be much appreciated

Thanks for that Ian...exactly what i was looking for regarding what screws do what job 
I've got it idling semi-ok, but the engine dies when i push the accelerator down.
Does this indicate too much fuel / not enough fuel?
I'll investigate more tomorrow, but if anyone's had the same thing - idling but dies when you put your foot down, then it might save me an hour or
3!

not enough fuel
with motor NOT running
take air cleaner off
move throttle and look into carby and fuel should squit down the middle.

Ahhhh....
Deffo not squirting....which i guess indicates a blockage? (or something else?)
I had the top off the reservoir earlier (which had fuel in it btw) and spotted a small hole at the bottom, but couldn't figure how to go about
unblocking it if it needed it. Any tips?

Under the discharge nozzle there is a ball bearing,this is probably stuck,remove the discharge nozzle and free the ball.

Thanks for that...seems that the ball bearing was stuck
OK...i've now got fuel through, and it starts and runs (to a degree) but i can't get it to idle at all. I've wound the idle control screw in all
the way but it's almost as if the idle control screw isn't long enough or something, as i can get it to idle if i manually pull the throttle lever
about a cm towards me, but when i let it go back to the normal position it dies again.
I've checked that the throttle lever isn't bent. Everything's exactly the same as the one i took off, so i have no idea whats going on.
Any ideas?

Clean the idle jet (r/h side under the choke unit) and the bleed hole above it.Sometimes you can cheat a little by running the engine up to about
2500rpm and choking it,this allows it to suck any gunk out. Note be careful as the fan belt is close.
