Oil leaks Type 4 engine in type 3.

Hi All,

I have an oil leak problem in my squareback which has a 1.8L type 4 engine. It does not leak at all most of the time (a few small drops), and then sometimes after driving it I notice a massive oil leak on the road in the morning.

Recently did a full service and oil change, checked all the plugs etc. and it didn't drop anything for a couple of weeks. Then i drive it last night for twenty minutes and find a MASSIVE oil patch under the engine in the morning.

Any ideas?

If it is from the bell housing there is a far chance that it is wear in the crankcase main bearing bore and the seal can't handle the oil.

Best start is a good clean and degrease of the engine, then check underneath regularly to see where the leak originates from. There are plenty of places oil can leak, so you need to narrow it down to an area.
As it's happened after an oil change and is intermittent, is the oil level correct? Over filling can do that.
