moral issue

My dillema stems from a work trip I did recently to outback queensland, where I spotted a complete split van and ute stored away on a block of land. To say I was pretty excited was an understatement but I couldn't get a real close look because the owner wasn't there. Now, should I share the location of these barn finds? Or keep them to myself and hopefully make a deal with the owner? What do you all think?

I would get in touch with the owner, as they may not want flocks of VW people on their door step.

If they are still sitting there now there's probably a good chance the owner doesnt want to part with them, you wouldn't be the only person that's seen them and most people know what they are worth and how hard they are to find these days.
Can;t hurt to ask though, worse they can say is no... maybe down the barrel of a shot gun being outback qld though

Only thing that would happen if You shared the location of these vehicles would be, someone would buy them out from
under You, even if You had talked to the owner..

its all about the money usually... lol

So, Go ahead and see how You go with the owner..
you will find out If He thinks they are worth BIG money or not

If you can't afford the price..
then and only then, tell someone about them so they don't just rust away...

cheers

LEE My opinion only..

It is not a moral issue at all, you found them and you are under no obligation to tell any one there location. if you do not want to try to buy them yourself then you could post there location for someone else to try there luck.

Thats the plan LEE! The neighbour told me he only visits his block once a month so I left a card saying I was interested in purchasing the kombis to put back on the road NOT to sell on at a profit. The question would be "HOW MUCH DOES HE WANT?" I know first hand how many hours/$$$$ a properly restored split can take to make a nice car with rust being the no.1 problem. Time will tell, I can only hope he says "it ran out of fuel one day and i left them there, but theres no dings or rust in them, so I'll take 2 cartons for 'em"......................dream on brother.............I'll give ya one carton, they are only old kombi's mate, nobody wants them....................:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I personally wouldnt tell anyone as yet
Contact the owner first, see whats the go,strike a deal if you cant and the owner is happy with you passing on his details then thats fair
Being not regular on his place, parading to the world the where abouts ,there liable to magically vanish
Old mate down the road stored an old motor bike under some sheets of iron, been there for years
People found out , and lets say the bike aint there and the owner got no money

If you're interested in buying these finds, don't tell a soul. I've found a lowlight out of service "somewhere" which I'm looking to buy. I knocked on the door and spoke to the owner, and had a look thru the bus. I'm just waiting for the all clear from the bank before I go hand over the cash.

I found an absolute gem of a split ute with engine or box in outback Qld!! Very straight with next to no rust at all, gates are awesome and tray is in very good nic!! Approached the owner to buy it but he reckons he is going to restore it for the truck museum in winton. I'm heading back out there early next year so we will see if its sitting deeper into the dirt and I will try again....

Seems to be the way with alot of older folks
They think some of their junk is worth a motsa and the prime pickings get dumped ....
Took 5 years of pestering the previous owner to snap up my toy,no VW,but persistance paid off
