so would the side mirror from a '67 or earlier bug mount straight onto my '68 or does it require some modifying?

i love the round mirrors 😉

as far as I know, the early round mirrors fit into the door hinge, whereas the 1968> and later screw into a threaded hole.... I can't remember seeing a round mirror screwed into the threaded hole..
You may have to make soething up...
I have seen round mirrors attached to the door frame on early beetles. I think they use the hot rod type mirrors and mount them onto the door some how... maybe a couple of screws... Lee
