Currently building a 1960 Baja for rallying and have heard of dramas with sand / dirt entering through the rear of engine due to corkscrew style on the crankshaft to keep the oil in. It also supposively draws the sand in. The Baja is currently running a type 3 1600. Any help would be apreciated.

If you want to run the sand seal, you will need to put the beetle tinware and pulley on. The seal will not fit the Type 3 Fan/pulley, unless you machine down the shaft that fits on the crank ! The pulley provided with the kit has a machined beetle one, retails for about $180 (I think)

I have not heard of any probs with sand though!
