Only in addition to the factory one. I have a doghouse on my Manx and ran an auxillary cooler as well. Great increase in oil capacity!! but only found it kept oil about 5-10 degreers cooler on the highway(was operating at 90-100 degrees). Ended up taking it off and staying stock. Was an absolute pig in winter(up here????) as it took forever to warm up. Just the extra capacity would make it worth it though....:bounce:bounce
I was in Cairns at the time, doing LOTS of miles every day. Ran an aircraft oil cooler mounted on engine lid (beetle) and with lid spaced open about 70mm...never worried about warming up, never got anywhere near HOT, even on flat out up the gillies highway, (for those who don't know: the Gillies is up hill all the way for about 27km, quite steep, almost continuous corners and great fun in a well set up bug. One of Qlds greatest driver type roads). Goes from Gordonvale just south of Cairns to Atherton Tablelends. Miss it now....Used to drive up and down FAST a few times a week. Seen the gillies kill quite a few cars, altho my engines lasted about forever. worth it for piece of mind and knowing that you can thrash it whenever the urge hits.
they took me away haha, hope the medication works

I think the down side is the fact you are running external oil lines.
I know of a few motors that have died from popping an oil line.
That said - i wish i had one "sometimes"
I get away with out one with the help of hood jax. But they have there problems with rain too.
If i had my choices i wish some one would sell an electric hood jax.
May be a Type 4 cooler and remove the front (front is front) piece of tin?
Motors only die from popping oil lines because they are not setup properly.
Don't bother with the type 4 cooler, it's not worth the effort, I never got any difference on the street or track.
I also have the front breast plate removed & I think that it definantly makes a difference, the engine bay gets a little dustier though.
U just can't beat the good old RX7 oil cooler mounted above the gearbox, the other weekend at Eastern Creek it took me 15 minutes of flat out driving to get the oil a shade over 100d, & last Sunday on the F3 coming home from CT's, I sat on 4000rpm in top all the way home & had 3 blats to 6500rpm with a AWD magna & I still didn't get the oil over 80d & thats without turining the fans on!.
I have also noticed a major difference since I wrapped my oil lines in Thermo Tech heat prrof wrap, they make one for the exhaust which everyone is familiar with, but they also make a wrap for oil & petrol lines. My lines run under my heads on both sides & very close to my J-Tubes & since putting this wrap on the lines I have seen the temps drop quite alot. I think that I now need to put a thermostate on since it runs so cool.

Congratulations to Ben Durie for breaking the hillclimb record at Ringwood in his stroker beetle!

hey, where do you hook the oil cooler in to a beetle motor??
I'm sure I would be able to find an RX-7 oil cooler, complete with inbuilt oil thermostat around somewhere, just dont know where they need to be hooked in??
