Yesterday started off great. I rugged up like an eskimo, scraped the ice off Kombi (yes, it's undercover, but it's been cold here ) , headed to Bunbury 80km away. The Kombi needed a new accelerator cable and that didn't take to long to fit. And then I did a bit of shopping. Two times during the day I had total strangers coming up to me asking about the kombi, which was nice. (It's pretty eye-catching and we have never done a trip without some-one coming up wanting to look at it or commenting on it )
So I'm heading home, feeling good as you do when you're driving a kombi 🙂, and a car goes past...THUNK...oh no...and then another one...thunk again. I'm feeling pretty sick by this stage. And then a truck goes past and bang..big stone chip in the windscreen. I nearly cried.
When I got home, yep, stone chips in the paint work as well...
I know this might sound a bit pathetic but both Daryl and I are quite upset about it. All night I dreamed of dented kombi's, and this morning Daryl said he was the same. He said it was like one of the family being injured.
I have some matching paint and a teeny- tiny brush but am a little unsure about trying to fix it myself. And as for the windscreen, we have Shannons insurance but if we lose this windscreen, we also lose the great VW decal on it. I bought it off ebay a long time ago and now I can't find the seller. I'll take a photo of it and post it here, and hopefully one of you might know where I can find another one...
Anyway, sorry for going on and on...just needed to vent I 'spose.

I sympathise! I still remember the back window of ours shattered in a freak accident by a lawn mower way over across the road from us 🙁 Luckily the tint held the glass in place until I could get it fixed.

Hey deb, how bad is the chip in the windscreen? I know that someplaces can repair chips by injecting silicon into them! I have never had this done but it may be something to look into rather than replacing the whole thing?

Kom123 - that glass still looks pretty straight. When i first looked at the pic i just thought it was dirty, good ole dint hey!

if it is only a chip it can be fixed not a problem but if it has cracked and run more than 5 cm and is on the drivers side just get a new screen and get an image place to make a new sticker

Funny you should say that, I didn't even notice until I got in the Kombi, started the engine, then looked in the rear view mirror and :o
