i am looking at buying a 77 automatic bay kombi and i am curious to know if there is anything to look out for?, is there anything special about the automatic ones? if anyone has got any usefull info it would be much appreciated

Haven't had one but everybody I know that has good one swears by them.
It is about $800 to rebuild auto though I have seen quotes of $1200.
im pretty sure the tranny is ok but the engine is F@#ked,
so i dont know weather to buy it... oh yeah its $500 and rust free.:P
For $500 for a rust-free body, you can't really go wrong. The auto should be the least of your problems, if it's a 2lt, which I believe a '77 should be... A good engine reco is going to cost you $2500 upwards, depending on how much you can do yourself.
