Need help finding date of manufacture

Can anyone assist in providing the date of manufacture for my beetle.
I don't have the chassis number, its on a later pan, but the plate in the front of the body reads:

Fahrgestell No: 0896211
(is this what the chassis number would have been?)

and then under it stamped bigger is:

MKA6724

I am told its a 1954, but would like to check.

Yes that would have been the chassis number, your number 0896211 is a June '55 manufacture date.
