I don't know about 4wd as that lever may be for locking the diff. 181 's could have that as an optional extra

No that is now why VW Australia got told to stop making the Country Buggy.
Another car is called ILTIS which is very much the same but is a 4X4. This was made around the same time right up into the 70 and 80 made by VW.

Bloody Beautiful.... I'd love one of those....
and - Its nothing like an Australian Country Buggy which was designed by the boss at Volkswagen Australasia... using 1967 6v Kombi & Beetle components in 1968...
and its nothing like an 181 or 182 "trekka" or "thing"...
but its My Cup of tea... I love it...
great place for a spare wheel and jerry can... ingenious...
Incidently : the Greatest Army Tank in World War 11 - the German "TIGER" tank was designed by non other than
Ferdinand Porsche - head of the Panzer division during the war.....

I was suggesting it was 4wd because the front hubs look the same as the Schwimmwagen which is 4wd

I just noticed those hubs as well you could be right poss 4wd. The ILTIS by the way is water cooled front engined, built mainly for the German army in the 70's & 80's .There's one somewhere 'round Tewantin up here on the Sunshine Coast.
hehe, love the fact that there is a spare fuel tin in the fuel tank:thumb:thumb:thumb

The Iltis is still in service with the Canadians I thought???
I am sure that i got a ride in a few a couple of years back.
