I have a wiring harness that I would like to get 'as new' for my Country Buggy rebuild. I would like advice/experience on how to get the wiring harness and fuse box looking 'as new'. I have used scotchbrite etc etc and general purpose cleaners to get the wiring insulation (and black/grey wrap the wiring is in) clean, but what about the spade terminals? Can I dangle them in alloy wheel cleaner or Coke or something to make them all sparkly-arkly?

Sure you can't just buy a new fuse box? and just connect your wires to it? or is it a peculiar style/type of fuse box?

I might be able to - but it's old-skool 60s Aussie VW stuff... and I want to keep it. Can't get a new harness these days... so I want to clean the lot!

dont waste ur time with coke..... its a myth that it strips rust, get citric acid and disolve it in a bit of water.... nice and strong, or alternatively use white vinegar

Plain old rust converter from any auto parts store will work a treat on terminals. Just mix up a dilute slution with water and leave the terminals to soak for a while. There is another product used for cleaning circuit boards and electrical circuitry called CO contact cleaner which works really well. It's available from Dick Smith.

Wire brush everything You can..
Works wonders for fuseboxes...
the copper terminals come up like new....
the copper gets contaminated over the years..
don't forget to take the battery terminal leads off an wire brush them until they shine, also where the earth strap goes and replace the bolt too.... wire brush the metal where the earth strap goes so its a Perfect connection... starter motor too.... use new stainless steel self tapper screws for earths... and clean the actual battery terminals with a wire brush too... after cleaning all the copper bits on the fusebox bend the lugs that hold the fuses in slightly too, so there is tension on the fuses.... makes a better contact...
best of luck
