My god where do you start. From the simple plug change that turned into a nightmare to the oil change from hell. All i know is that for nearly 2 months im been scraping , degreasing and every other shitty job you can think of. Today i hit my target. from now on all i have to do is paint and reassemble stuff. For those of you that have been through such an ordeal you will now how happy i am. Spent nearly $50 in degreaser for crying out loud!!!
Now it's detail time and spending huge amounts of money.
What have been your lows and hi's???????

The Lower Class
I have only just began the long journey of over hauling my 62, as so far everything but one has been of a positive nature. Sure some tasks have been dirty, and others a down right pain in the arse but the end result is worth every cent. which brings me to the only low so far. The cent factor. I dont think i have ever used my bank keycard so much. The joys of motoring.... hehe.
The sanding of panels starts soon so we'll see if the attitude changes then. :duh
😎
hehe..
When i first bought my project (58 beetle with a '68 and '70 pan) the 70 pan had already been built up and all the parts were there. It only needed an interior and some stuffing around. I was thinking sweet! I'll give myself 3 months to get it on the road! That was in June.
When I was doing it I thought hey i'll get it done by the end of the year.... now my realistic goal is february!
Shit jobs were doing things like putting in the new fuel line, fiddly and it doesn't feel like you've acheived much when you've done. Now that I've got the body off (this was a high!) and i'm fixing the heater channel its a bit more rewarding as it feels like its actually going somewhere. After the body is back on it should be highs with fitting the interior (get to see all the pretty colours and finishes) and probably a low doing the electrics :cussing
anyway we'll see how it unfolds

All the trouble im having even getting my squareback to my house, things can only get better from here!!
well i still havent finished mine yet but when we bought it about a year ago it had a whole heap of parts and body parts that should have just slotted in, give a clean up and sweet new ride, NOT
i now know why the back seats werent int he car, they didnt fit
the rail on the passenger front seat is bent so i cant slot it in, hopefully a persuation stick will fix it, but i might have to buy new seat rails
the paint job which looked decent when i bought it has been scratched as all hell buy the dogs at my friends house which is where i had stored it for a few months and some has been peeled off near the back window as the back window fell out and we had to gafer tape some plastic over it, plus some rust spots have come out now so definatly need a new paint job
also has a weird knocking sound coming from around or behind the fan shroud
so hence why my slap together beetle still isnt on the road after a year
sorry had to have a whinge 🙂

lo's; finding out your custom fuelines are cracked after you've put the body on,🙁
hi's; turning heads at every set of lights. 😎
Didnt mind mindless stuff like degreasing, paintstripping and blocksanding, I kind of found it so monotenous that it was like some thinners induced meditation .
What almost did my head in was installing the stainless trim in the front and rear window rubbers (3 hours for the front!) and then installing the windows by my self with the use of heaps of soapy water and those window suction f@ckers that tend to let go and smack u one in the head. Much cussin and tool throwing that day!
mirp mirp went the hair lipped dog
how about just about finishing your project of 5 years only having the carpets to go and then writting the car off completely

or on a similar note, spending over 4 years and countless amounts of money doing a resto only for the vehicle to be written off 2 months after becoming road legal 🙁
shit happens.
if it wasn't for the low points you'd never know when you were at a high point!
