Heys guys
I have used this oil additive before in a couple of my later model cars and I thought it was great. Do you think I can use it in Vern (1974 Beetle) ?

There are a few articles on the web about Slick 50 - some bad, some good. You should probably read both sides of the issue before spending $50+ on an oil additive... FYI, I've used it before in my 1600TP and saw no ill effects, but was it really worth the money? Not sure. Would i use it again... no. I'd rather spend that money on accessories

heres only one interesting thread on additives:

I had Slick 50 in an old Baja a few years ago, and while over on Moreton Island the oil cooler shit itself and dumped all the oil. We were still a couple of kays from the Barge and decided to push it the rest of the way......well that lasted a couple of hundred metres until we got jack of it......so figured bugger it....we'll try to drive it there and replace the motor when we get home. Drove the rest of the way taking it easy with NO OIL, and when I got home I stripped it down and there were no ill effects.....put it back together and ran fine for a few years until I sold the car....... I dont recommend trying this, but it worked for me.

I have seen an old holden six run all day after being treated with redex, then had the sump off ( nothing up its sleeve) and idled away all day with the occasional revving. Really wierd seeing under a running engine with the sump off! The old tractor pull and trade show days! Blokey+++

Just remember oils already have certain additives in them if the manufacturer thought it was neccesary they would put them in. Any engine can idle for quite a while without oil in it (eg you just drained it, not bone dry as in just assembled) Theres minimal load at idle and everything covered in oil anyway not that id suggest you try it. These additives have been known to froth oil which is not good. Just use good oil.

I used to crew for Slick50 team at bathurst in the 12 hour. Apparently the year before I got there (and this is only heresay) one of the citroens copped a crack in the sump 15 or 20 (cant really remember) laps from the end and they just kept going, eventually thinking there was something faulty with the oil light when it finished the race.

Its not something that you could say works by using it in one or two oil changes. You could only prove its worth really when you have 2 engines built the same, driven the same, serviced the same and theoretically the Slick50 treated one will last a lot longer. I used it in my kombi with no ill effects when I could get it for free.
