I'd like to know what the colour of the wheels, headlight rims and hubcaps were on a CB. I have seen several with black wheels and headlights rims, non-shiny grey hubcaps and black badges/bonnet locks. Does anybody know if this is correct?

Yes, they were all shiny black.... bumpers plus all normally chromed items were painted glossy black... etc...

Can't remember the hubcaps...
... could have been black...too..
I would have thought that the wheels would have been the same colour as the Vehicle... guessing...
Hard to find any info on them as Volkswagen Australasia was being closed down when they came out....

Interesting to note that 400 LHD CKD country buggies were shipped to the Phillipines... Doors and a fibreglass top were options... they looked much better than no doors...
Some were used by the Philippines Police...
VWA sent 4 Country Buggies to Volkswagenwerk for evaluation purposes.... then they made the type 181-182...

The front amber blinkers and tail lamps were locally sourced items... made by Hella Australia...

Yeah, all lights were Hella Made in Australia. My front lights are white - orange wasn't an ADR req until 1973 BUT mine may have been replaced....

were the bumpers black, too? Oh! Or were they grey?

I can't remember seeing any grey on the vehicle just the colour of the car- green or beige {??} and glosssy black...
The front blinkers and tail lamps were used on boat trailers etc back in the 60s & 70s...

The bumpers were Glossy Black...
Farmers who had these cars usually took the hub caps off...
and the people who drove them on the roads either took them off or replaced them with chromed ones....

I believe the hub caps would have been glossy black to match the rest of the items painted glossy black....
like bumpers & headlamp surrounds....

What did the steering wheel look like???

I remember it being black..

where in the world would You now get mufflers in two halves???? one for each side.... Maybe someone has them as they would have been a spare part..

Headlight, hubcaps, hingesand rims are all black.
Bumpers are grey and the floor pan is also grey.
This has been how all CB`s that I have seen have been done.
This is how we have done ours, but the floor pan we did black.

Country Buggy Bill id have some stailess steel exhausts and mufflers available about 8 months ago which were made up as per the original. I think he wanted around $800.

Some one told me that the cannon type mufflers would fit.................but they don't! I took mime to a good exhaust shop and he made me an exhaust system that fits just fine but about the only thing I salvaged from the cannon system were the mufflers themselves which was not worth it as the guy at the muffler shop could supply bare mufflers cheaper.

Yes, I'll be buying the mufflers from CB Bill when the car is back on its wheels. I'll also be looking at his cars to recreate my roof frame etc. My car will be ratty, but with rebuilt running gear, fixed up rust and NOT modified in any way. It will look 'old and original' not restored
Thanks for the replies!
