What a blast just got back from 6 days in Anehiem California, the hart of VW's in the USA.
Bought back 4 bags of goodies between a mate and myself.
Got to see some quick VW's race down the 1/4 mile and went to only some of the parts shops, got everything I needed and some, every thing we wanted was there on hand, didn't have to wait for shipment and cheep. It was all there on the shelf, even performance parts.
We drove on the wrong side of the road, got abused by a Yank driver, got taken out to HOOTERS and treated really nicely by the girls (and yes they were cute).
the weather was great, up to 27c and as we were driving around in a rental convertable, we had a blast. Every day was perfect.
You gotta put it on your must do list, Iv'e been waiting over 15 years to do it and I can't wait to go back.

I know what you mean, we drove coast to coast a few years ago and gotta agree it's a shoppers dream.
Soooo much stuff and, yes, it's on the shelf!

I cant work out why we ditched HOOTERS over here, it was the one American cultural influence I can truly handle.

Sounds like a good time was had... guess we'll get our ears talked off on Thursday!
We got most of our money changed well before we went, only to find that on our way back that it got up to 85 cents....bugger.
It didn't matter we had a fist full of US dollers and we were on a spending spree, in fact for 2 days in a row we had filled the boot 2 times and it took 4 trips to get all the stuff up to our hotel room.
Did I mention we also went to the national finals of the NHRA drag racing. Noe that has to be the greatest show on earth.

The beer sucked, it tasted like carlton cold no real flavor and near flat, at one restraunt they gave me a dead glass and they had know idea why I complained about the beer having no head.
Yes and hopefully with the wheels a little further off the ground.
Even managed to pick up a Quaife LSD...... no breaky breaky now.
What is the best way to bring a shitload of stuff like that back home?
Did you carry lotsa suitcases?
I went over with all my clothes in a carry on bag.
The plan was to buy suitcases over there. And for 50 bucks each to buy a trolly type bag why would buy them here.
32 Kgs is the limit or 70 pounds. e actually bought a cheep set of bathroom skales for 5 bucks to weigh our bags.
Got through custom here in Aus, we went to declare our stuff and when we told them that we had car parts they didn't want to open them up at all so we told about half of what we had paid a little duty and they were happy. I think if you try to totaly fool them they will bust your arse, as well as fine you. Better to be honest. Its still cheeper than getting stuff here if you can find it.

Oh yeh we got there along with about 10 million other people it was huge.
If you could imagine about 4 acres of display stands and pitt area with semi tralers everywhere John Force had 3 tralers in his pitt area alone.
They even had full size Funny car simulators the you could race your buddy in totaly amazing.
yeah ive seen then on ESPN i believe they actuall give you the G forces as well as the drive great should have lined up
Yeh OK Ill drink Carlton Cold if I have to, but their beer is capt at 3% even fosters is 3%, but you can buy beer from any 7-11 which are on every corner and you pay about 6 buck for a six pack.
Even their light beer is just light in colour and calleries not alcohol level.
the simulators are set up on hydrolic rams, so you even get a wheel stand off the line
One thing I found very interesting was that we saw hardly and VW's, Infact the whole time we were there we counted about 25 VW's on the road.
The shop manager from Moore parts took us out on the friday night and he explained that in the eighties the seen was huge(as was rammed down our throats by Mike Martinez for those who know him) just about every corner street in So-Cal had a bug screeming past with the sound of 48's.
But the Japs came over and bought up all the nice VW's (and everything else that had a soft top). Back then you could do up a bug for about $6000.00 and they were offering between 12 and 15 grand, and this is coming from a man who worked for shops like Car Custom and Johny's Speed and Chrome, he also ownes a sweet 56 oval that has featured in Hot VW's. They still have some nice cars though, they just keep them in their garages.

Thats funny there was no mention of the big 40 but the HOOTERS were in fine form, no prob sleeping and no prob rolling out of bed either.
Oh and by the way the Haskvaner was alive and in full tune.
