The first thing I ever bought was a vent cowl to stop rain getting in the engine compartment, my dad just used to put a plastic sheet over the engine then close the lid but one day drove off without removing it:cry very messy and smelly. I was only young then but have had quite a steep learning curve!
Forgot to say I got a rear venitian blind NOS on the same day! for $120.

doesnt quite count as an accessory, but I got a spare (6 volt) battery because my generator didn't work so good. When one battery was getting flat I'd swap them over and charge the one out of the car until it was time to swap them over again.
but it was my car and I loved it!

I think my oval may count as an accessory, as my square is teh one that drives and I only got it two weeks ago!!
The square.. first thing was tyres and a steering adjustment 🙂 Sorry DaveB, just really got bugged (no pun) by the wander and wobble from your place to Sydney.
But for the oval...... ummm... pop-outs? maybe but they're only one of stacks of stuff bought so far put aside for when I get it on the road. Latest was a set of robri style stone guards from Roy.
'Ah, whatever................'
I think it was a set of Twin Carbies to replace the single set up on my 1500 Station wagon in 1971
A set of t-bars, eyebrows, moon discs, and a set thunderbird extractors on my '70 Notch in '86. Prior to that was some 145's and a lowering job.

Type 3 discs and drums (on a 67 beetle), if thats an accessory. Seat covers next.
Then a Tacho, unfortunately the signal wire I put on originally had thin insulation and it wore throught after a few months. The engine used to die on left hand turns. It took me a week to trace the fault. :duh

I think the very first thing was a proper VW gear knob to replace the yukky one that was on it when I bought the ol girl home.
