Beetle: aftermarket seats?

Just Wondering if there are many dramas with fitting aftermarket seats to a Beetle? There's some guy selling heaps of them on ebay:

Which got got me thinking about it. These look a bit cheap but was wondering what sorts of things perople have got out there

well.... not really.

You "should" have an Engineers report for ANY modification

That said, i know a lot out there that dont.

Anyway, you would want to have a look to make sure you could weld them to a VW base.
That is the main thing - if it can fit on a base then it will just slide in

I've got some of them. They are vinyl and are hot and sweaty but are comfy. I just made brackets and used the VW runners.

Yep, I have a set of aftermarket seats (from a Jap car - not sure which one, but I purchased the seats from a Jap wrecker/importer). They are sitting on a set of cut-down VW seat runners, which allows them to slide into any (early) bug. You do need a compliance plate to make them legal in Qld.

Much nicer to drive long distances with these seats than the standard ones! No burnt bum when you leave the car parked in the sun either (cloth seats)!

Just watch when you are looking at purchasing seats that they will fit in the car (width) as I have seen a couple of people purchase seats that look great, but are just slightly too wide to fit.

With the seats on that link you will have to email them for the dimensions to make sure they fit in the car first!! You can use the VW runners on them but you will have to weld a tab onto the runners to allow the seats to have something to bolt onto. I looked at a few different types on ebay for my Manx and a lot of them were to wide to fit between the tunnel and the outer body. If you do get a set you will not need the seat runners that come with it if you use the VW ones.
