Interested to hear your thoughts. What do you think? (with apologies if already posted.)
Myself, I am not a fan of the chrome grille, but I am sure they wont bring that nonsense here! 5 Cyl mill sounds appealing. Anyone who has driven an Audi from the 80's or early 90's with a 5 will understand.

I quite like it, but I agree that the wheels seem too small.
I'm not a fan of sedans, so I'll never really dig it. But if you're ready to wear a cardigan, I'm sure it'll be a nice drive.
Andrew
Hahaha... Cardigans.... I own a Vento now, so I must be a cardy wearer. My gf and I chose the vento cos the boot is just freaking huge!!!! It is way bigger than a new commodore, and I can fit an 18" bass drum straight in!!! I can fit my whole jazz kit in the boot out of sight. The current Bora has a smaller opening, and it isnt as deep. The MkV Bora looks like it might have a similar size to the Vento, so this could be my next car. Better stock up on Fletcher Jones, then... heh heh...
As for the wheels, I think they are either 16's or 17's. I would prolly go the next size up. Having said that, any car I own is automatically going to be a bit lower than stock, so it wont matter as much to me. The MkV chassis is a winner, so driver pleasure should be forhtcoming. This is the future of car design, and nothing is going to change it. I am a huge fan of older shapes, but they aint never coming back. The first time I saw the MkV Golf and Bora, I didnt like em. Maybe they will grow on us all...

Nice, but needs bigger rims and she looks a little too bulky in the arse end for my liking.
nice, but its styled too conservatively for my taste. it almost reminds me of a camry 🙂

Agreed wheels too small, would change them otherwise I love it. I was looking at buying either a Bora or Passat for my next car ...... gotta grow up sometime !!!!
The rear end looks very Honda Accord Euro ish
🤘
Its a shame car makers are becoming more and more generic, but I am sure if you pulled up in a Bora next to a Camry or Euro, the difference would be huge. I dont think the photos do the car justice.
Did anyone notice the change in approach with styling? For the first time in 5 generations, the headlights are shared with the Golf. Ever since Jetta Mk1, the booted Golf has had squarer headlights to differentiate it from the Golf. This time it is a true Golf sedan, not a Jetta/Bora. While I do like the front end, I kinda wish they had stayed with tradition.

no such thing as tradition. change is a good thing, otherwise we would be stuck in a timewarp
🤘
tis nice
i think better than the golf (mk 4 was a nice design)
a nice set of 19 inch wheels, lowered and a subtle body kit and it would look a treat (no boofy rear wings though)
68 Beetle - rebuilding 😵💫
65 beetle - driving 😎

You prolly wouldnt think that if you were more aware of the cult status that has surrounded the Golf/ Jetta since they came out. In automotive spheres, tradition is strong, hence the new beetle, and MiniCooper S 2. On the new GTI they have harkened back to the grille and interior of the first GTI, so tradition is still marketable and tangible. The Jetta 1 & 2, Vento, and Bora all were sufficiently styled to look a bit different to the Golf to justify the different name. My point is, does the new one warrant the name Golf sedan? Yep. It isnt a Jetta/ Bora, strictly. Will I buy one? Hmmm.... Maybe, although a new GTI is also calling. The Bora will have the same attraction to the Vento as far as luggage is concerned, but the performance of the GTI might pull it ahead. It will have a 5 cylinder. 150bhp. But the GTI has a Turbo 2L. I think price will be the deciding factor.

Nah, not my thing. Looks too much like an accord and the front end looks like they're trying to disguise what should hold an Audi grille.
When are VW going to bring out some cool new cars :cry
I want a Bora that kicks the NEW C class in the styling and proportioning department and uses the W8 with a 6 speed manual (set back abit) to drive the back wheels ONLY! All the current dubs look too goofy and understeer like a civic.

I own a new beetle ...... BELIEVE ME ....... I have been made aware of "tradition" on a number of occasions. I just think that if we stick to the same old same old then we become stagnant. It it like eating the same type of ice cream or drinking the same type of beer or wearing the same type of jeans just because it is tradition. Sure we don't have to "like" it, but we can't change it, so I think that it is time to move on and get over the fact that "styling" changes and if you don't like then don't buy it ...... simple !
🤘
Yeah, I agree, and styling has changed and evolved. But they shouldnt call it a Jetta or Bora anymore cos it looks for the first time like a Golf with a boot. Its like when Ford had a Meteor and a laser. Then one year, they just had a laser hatch and a laser sedan. A Jetta/ Bora always needs the differentiation from the Golf to make it a Jetta/ Bora. Otherwise it aint a Jetta/ Bora, just a Golf with a boot. It would be like VW calling the type 3's entirely different names. Or calling the Passat wagon something completely different cos its a wagon, even though the rest of the car is the same. Having said that, I like the styling.
Oh, and amusingly enough, my gf has had a Mk2 Jetta, and now owns a Vento. On top of my priority list for mods for both cars was a Golf grille and lights... Hahaha... I make no sense.

GO the 5 cyl im inlove with the group B Audi Quattro and my dads late model bus is the 5cyl one and it got a nice exhaust and man watta note!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've popped back into this thread a few times to look at the MkV and try and work it out. The front end is Commodore, the A-C pillars is current Bora, and the rear end is certainly Honda - Integra though I reckon.
Something about the whole look I like, but there is also something that just doesn't appear to fit right. There is a lot of weight below the C pillar, and the waist line is high - look at those rear headrests.
Squiz.....

Haha... A man in the know. Cheers, Alex. Having owned a 5+5, and driven my brothers 100, there is no sound like a throaty inline 5!!! I am still not sure how they will fit it east/west. They are using current gearboxes. Doesnt make sense.
High waistlines are the styling of any car these days. I agree, but after a lot of looking at the photos, I like it compared with the Japanese offerings. I agree that there is a lot of weight below the waistline, but in this pic, I think it works.
However, I cant see commodore in the front. Far more rounded.

Here's the new Commodore frontend. The lights are narrower, but the centre grill has a likeness.

OK, a slight similarity in concept of the grille. I concede that. Fortunately the Bora looks way better than the commonwhore... I think the Bora is a classier package.
