went down to my exhast centre to get a quote on a system for the bug , a top stainless system will be around 1400 bucks hmmm it will have to wait for now , any way was thinking of makeing the standad system look a bit nicer with some heat resistant paint anyone used these on a dub thinking of white, whats the best brand.
VHT is good.
I just did a Harley zorst with it and it came out great.
Power plus is also good.
1400 sounds a bit obscene for a bug exhaust.
You could also look at getting it ceramic coated, not too dear and it lasts a long time. Bit like high temp powder coating

por 15 or VHT
yes I thought it was a lot but it was a very fancy system with headers and exiting out the stock cut outs , thay said thay may be able to do it for 1200. and thanks for the info will try one of those brands.
another option is ceramakrome.
i will write what the pamphlet has in front of me.
is a unique metallic ceramic exhast coating providing excellent protection against corrosion and thermal fatigue . ceramakrome is ideal for your race or turbocharged engine . it helps maintain exhaust gas temperatures, aids cylinder scavenging and reduces turbo spool up time. POLISHES TO A CHROME LIKE FINISH . ceramakrome may be applied to a variety of surfaces and metals, such as EXHAUST SYSTEM COMPONENTS, brakets , valve covers , wheels , inges , grilles , suspension parts or any metal part that can withstand the 270 degress temp when applying
i had this on my bay exhaust and it looked awsome and lasted.

Speak to Tuffys , Alexandria , Sydney. I've had 2 systems of them so far. All custom made and they were really well priced. One for a HR and one for a Mk1 Cortina.
Give you an idea on custom mufflers a S/S magnaflow , supertrap or many others with custom bends and tips , from $400 approx
They can also ceramic coat your extractors. Painting them will only last so long i have found if youre not getting them blasted / cleaned prior. Ceramic coating is far better , lasts longer and looks nice.
They are doing my custom muffler for the Notch in the very near future.
Good luck
Dan😉

also apparently it gives you extra power because the exhaust temperatures dont get as hot .
Does that mean you get a "Tuffy Toned" sticker as well?
Worth as much as a "Tempe Tyres" one apparently.

LOL , i gave one to our spotty trainee on P's who drives a riced up 180 Nissan and the other one went on my work van.
Saying that i do have a sticker fetish

I've never had any success with heat proof paint and I've normally followed the instructions too..
A mate once used pot belly stove black on his and it worked really well..
You can get them powder coated which seems to be ok but a few hot rodders are getting theirs aluminum coated and they look great and seem to last well...
Good luck with it.

i've always used VHT white high temp paint on headers on Mitsubishi cars over the years with great results...
It never peels off etc....
My Son has done the extractors on His Baja a few times and it seems to disappear... it always goes rusty....
Maybe it wasn't clean enough at the start....

maybe it wasnt clean, i think the exhaust on a aircooled vw is hotter than most and that has something to do with it could be wrong
The trick is to either blast or sand the thing really well first.
Then you prepare the surface as though you were doing a full on paint job, clean it up and get any grease, shit etc off.
Then apply the VHT trying to get a full wet look but no runs.
Let it dry.
Bake it on either in an oven or with a blowtorch, it won't get hard until you do.
Then sand it back lightly.
Do it again until you get a nice thick finish.

So VHT, POR15 and ceramachrome are good paints and Ceramic coating is good as well?
Apart from VHT and ceramic coating, has anyone used the other two on a beetle exhaust?
'Ah, whatever................'
Unless POR 15 has a special Very High Temperature paint... I don't think the standard POR 15 would withstand Exhaust manifold heat... If they made a VHT Paint it would be great as their products are the BEST....
I've had no problems using VHT brand Hi Temp paints and they have never burnt off etc... stayed the same for years...

dont stuff around with paint, get a new system ceramic coated -llllaaaasts forever and if you want to get blinged up you can polish away to your hearts content and it polishes up pretty good
Painting Your exhaust is the very INExpensive way to make it look great without bending the bank account......
If We all had the cash to spare , I'm sure We would all have ceramic coated extractor exhausts.....
on our VWs....
I know I would.... they look out of this world.....

Love the colours on the engine Lee,
They were all VHT paints? or a mix and match depending on what items were painted? I am not going quite as colourful as you, but much more paint than a blank engine.
'Ah, whatever................'
POR does a high temp paint in all the usual colours, they do require the surface to be sand blasted. Cermakrome is a cermic based coating which is available in a DIY version from Techline Coatings. It also requires sandblasting. It is probably better than paint, but not as good as a professionally applied ceramic coating.
Ain't nothin' like the wind in your hair.
painted a lot of stuff on the type 3 with vht.... exhaust i had to re-paint as the paint just pitted and fell off...brand new most displeased...i also painted all the intake tin in vht yellow...plus all the internal and external screws on my generator are done in vht clear...buffed them up first..cleared...chroming cheap 😀
highly recommend it...

"if only everything in life was made like a volkswagen"
thanks for all the info I purchased some vht 1400 deg flame proof silver paint will paint the exhast over the chrissy holidays , the bug looks a little naked at the moment with its ass in the air and no engine or trans , doing a gearbox swap and some under body detailing but it all must be finished by the end of January as I am entered in the Sydney car festival at RoseHill gardens will most likly be the only VW but at least I will stand out amongst all the V8s and DOOF DOOFS.
