is it gas and gasless with disposable bottles
Yes sorry forgot to mention that; it is.
well if it is ,
you should do a converion and put a proper reg on it so you are not paying $30 for a throw away bottle every couple of weeks , a reg and bits and pieces will set you back around $100
make a long hose so you dont have to drag the bottle around when you move around the car
i got one they are cheap but for panels they work fine just dont waste your time with the gasless wire
sorry i forgot to mention that you can hire a bottle for one year for $90 and they are good for steel up to5 or 6mm
cheers darren
I probably wont need to use it a great deal just some very small jobs. So the little gas bottles may be ok for me. Just curious though, how much is it to hire a gas bottle ie rental , filling etc from say BOC? Or can you just hire one for a day from the hire shops?
Thanks Darren
I know a few people who have SIP welders and they seem ok. Most of the time as long as you are happy with the duty cycle and the performance they give it will be how you look after it as to wether it is a good welder or not. Keep your liner clean ETC ETC.
And yeh forget gasless wire it is crap.
.
Sorry Andy, what's the liner?
i have a SIP 170 amp mig and its really good.
$300 sounds great
The liner is what the wire feeds thru on its way to the hand piece. If you allow it to get full of crap your wire will not feed properly and it becomes a bitch to use the welder. Probably the main reason this happens is if you get dirty or rusty wire from not using it enough. You can position a piece of felt over the wire so it runs through it after it comes of the roll to prevent dirt and if it has been a long time since you did any welding and the wire has surface rust on it you should pull it directly from the roll untill the wire becomes good again. The liner is replacable or can be cleaned by blowing compressed air thru it.
.
I have a SIP welder and it fine.
but run a bottle and not flux core wire for panels etc.

I have the exact model and I would not buy it again if I had the choice, getting parts has been a real headache and items like the trigger assembly are all combined, unlike other welders where you can replace little bits here and there. The wire feeding capability isnt the smoothest either.
But in the end you get what you pay for, $300 is not a lot of money.. just dont expect it to do big jobs continuously without having some dramas.
I paid $600 for mine last year, but am now wishing I had spent a few more $$$ and gotten a better quality welder..
But such is life..
Just wondering how much welding you'd get out of one of those little disposable gas bottles that comes with these sorts of welders. I know it would just depend on how much you use it but, would you be able to say weld in one floor pan?
NO!!! I have one of these welders also and I find the disposable bottles to be crap.ie once you use them they don't appear to reseal properly and you lose the remaining gas. You would definetly want a large rental bottle as it is cheeper than the disposable bottles anyway..that is if you required 4 bottles to do the job a rental would be cheeper. I agree with buggyboy though...if i had my time over i would not have bought mine in the first place as i've had nothing but trouble with it. But each to their own...:tree
