Hey all, I just went to inspect the squareback and found about two inches of rain in the battery area and the rear drivers side foot well!!

Anybody know where this might have come from? We got some pretty heavy rain last night and today.

I have already taped up the front air vents under the windscreen in case it came through there. Door seals are old but pretty good on the whole.

Ideas?

Cheers

i've had water in the same spot on my beetle. After any rain, even little showers the battery area under the seat floods with about an inch of water. I've had to resort to covering the car with a tarp when rain comes 'cuz i can't find the leak point. sux hey.

The water will be from the fresh air box under the dash

The drain holes block up with leaves n dirty and cause the surounding metal near the air box to rust.

the best method is to remove the ir box and weld up the air grills
I read it on FACEBOOK so it must be true

You can try cleaning out the air box n drain tubes these go into the front firewall area ... blow them out with compressed air

saw a great idea where you get some of that fridge magnet stuff and make some " pads" that stick over the fresh air grates.

Either put it on when raining or take em off when needed.

Do it neat and i reckon it looks ok

lol, no such luck, that would have been easy to sure.

Well the car is fill of water again tonight, so I mopped it out, used better tape on the vent holes and also took off the hoses inside and directed them into a bucket!
Bring on the rain!

I have seen some very useful add-ons for Type 3 vents, I will see if I can find the pic.

Good idea about the fridge magent stuff, might try and find some!

Cheers

OK, Progress report:

Only a very small amount of water in bucket, better tape must be working. Although I dont want any water in there at all really!

Rear section still has some water coming in, I think its coming in through door windows, bugger.

Anyone know a temp measure of sealing these up without using silicone and stopping the windows from opening?

Cheers
