The body tag makes it a '62.

although if it has a reserve tap it should be without a fuel gauge which makes it pre July 1961. Other clues to make it pre 1962 are if it has a hinged latch to hold up the bonnet instead of spring loaded struts. Also if there are no sliding bits over the front footwell heater outlets it is pre '61

The bonnet is 62 or earlier, if the badge above the handle has only 3 colours with a black background then it is 60-62 bonnet. If it has a blue blackground with green and lots of colours then it is earlier.

The front turn indicators are 64 and later items, look like they have been added.

Of course the above items are changeable.

Are there cutouts for semaphores in the B-Pillar?

Yes its a 64> engine lid....

with holes for front & back towel rail type over riders etc...

Bonnet with late Badge..... 60-61... but with spring assisted lift... from 1962 approx...

Fuel gauge could have been added....

or early tank with tap installed too..??

Fat Blinkers - 1964> with clear lenses...

Tail lights 1962>

Its certainly a mixed bag..... a lot of additions??

Beetles weren't made with a fuel gauge And Tap....

then having a fuel gauge means it is a 62 and a half !!!

seriously, I used to like to update the looks a bit. run to the wreckers and get a few bits.
Once I bought a compl clutch as new for $10 @ Westmead Spares Western Hwy (1966) LoL

even thought of changing an oval to a big window (rear) for a while

its post May '62 because the doors are held on with 3 screws instead of 4. Dont know why it has a fuel tap lever though???? Maybe it was a standard model instead of deluxe?

Also you can check the wheels to see what year they are too, the month and year are stamped on the wheel outside face near the bolts

Maybe they have mistaken the hi beam switch for a reserve fuel switch.
