I'm pricing up some of these and would like to know if anyone else is interested.
If you haven't seen these they are so trick it's frightening!!!
Would come as a complete kit for your bug. The frame glazed to your choice of tinted / non tinted glass and be complete with all fittings and instructions.
As with any safari's or pop outs they will not be cheap. I'm waiting on onfo back from the UK and after xmas holidays i'll be able to give you an idea on approx cost on a kit .
This is a bad pic and i'll do better in the near future.
Cheers Dan😉

I like it. Can you confirm exactly what year model and months they will fit?
You would be able to help us fit I assume 😉

What do you do with your windscreen wipers?

Mount them up high, rod style.

The pics i have both cars aren't running them. One seems to have the wipers on the others smooth i think. Mind you thats the US for you!

Never seen these before so cool!!
I have all the other stuff for a sun in the sun beetle...rag top....solid visor....NOW safari's!!!!
Bel n I would need to move to warmer climates then for sure 😎
Were they an original optional extra???
Any ideas of legality issues re. the opening windscreen itself as well as the tint/glaze? Sorry to be a wet blanket, just thoughts its important to consider before people lay down any cashola?
Cheers Dan
That would look cool on my '60....don't think my $$ will cover it but I'd be interested in the pricing....!
As for the wipers.....is there any way of moving them out of the way to cruise with the screen open, then folding them back for inclement weather?
I was thinking that too.
I still reckon they are worth a look, the show car crowd will be in for sure.
" You're not a team player "
Tints are just the same as used now , clear or green / bronze , grey. Thats whp ( windscreen high penertration glass)
Legality i don't know to be honest. I don't think it was an extra originally.
I have been asked to aquire one for a customer who has very deep pockets and is putting a really nice car together. He's not fused about the legal side but thats his choice and as he's paying me lots of dosh so i'm happy. His car won't be a daily driver i know that much.

Sometime about 68 the flat glass finished.
The flat 69-70's glass is not truly flat, it has a slight curve.

This idea was first drawn up by a very close friend of mine named Glynn Whale.
He used to reside in the UK about 12 years ago and fabricated this to his 71 full custom bug.
It was dark Navy blue had suicide doors,no hinges, and a huge host of other mods never seen before.
As he now lives here, and imigrated with the car "LOWDOWN" 10 odd years ago we still have the one true original front window frame.
It is made like no other and cost over 500 pounds to do back then.
Full ten inch stainless crome hinge, knurled knobs to like a split safari system, two piece full brass frame,.......
Will post pics of the "Original" window asap as i have heaps of them.
Might be for sale soon aswell.
"O.S.K"
We make it happen!
I remember that car would love to see oics again. i think the mag is still at my parents in the uk with it in !!!

Special Air Service wrote:What do you do with your windscreen wipers?
The wipers fold down split style, and the kits usually come with something to clip the wipers into. There was a kit similar to this in the US, and I recall seeing a tech article in either VW Trends or Hot VWs re the install. Look very trick.
Squiz....
I'd like to see some made for the rear window. Like super popouts! Now that would be sweet.
If thats legal in Aust, count me in!!
'Ah, whatever................'
hey Aaron, I heard that a certain employee of a certain former VW repairer bought Glynn's car, and is re doing it.
and this time, giving it the big engine it missed out on the first time.
They use to sell rear popouts for beetles in the US a few years back.

Yup Glynn was probably the first to do this mod. Brassworks in London built the frame way back in 1992/93, as you mentioned was made out of brass.
Theres another bug over here in the UK much a clone of Glynns with the blue paint and chromies, called "No Glass Act". Its got Safari's front and rear, and again the frames made out of brass.
If anyone wants a copy of Volksworld with Glynns bug in it, I have a few copies for sale, together with 100s of back issues all for sale inc issue 2/3. Have issue 1 Volksworlds up for grabs and have sold 5 this year.
Good luck with the mod.
No ones mentioned Targa Top bugs yet...I have many on my books as I run the Back to 89 Nostalgia Displays here in the UK . With many members from Low Down Buggerz which Glynn was a member of.

Stu VERY small world! I've followed the back to 89 stuff and love it!!!!

Ivans first bug....hahaha. Yeah thats Clive from Solihull Birmingham.
Im a little taken back that your following my Back to 89 stuff. Its kinda grown large now, and the new website will go live in the New Year.
Gasoline Scream sounds familiar...hmmm I got a vague memory that it was in a Readers Rides, with Dave Herseys peppermint green bug on the cover. Dec 90 I think.
If you need any nostalgic DVDs of Bug Jam 88 - 91 on the format which you guys use out there, come and see me. Top quality remastered from the originals.
Happy New Year to you too Dan and all you Aus dubbers.
Stu
Danny - i have been thinking about this option ever since i started my project.
Even went so far as to look at sourcing the hinges and discussing the fabricating implications with people in the know.
ended up deciding it was too hard to do myself, and would wait until the kits came out.
so when i saw those pics of the show with those two bugs, i was keen to know more too.
so in a word, yes, i am very interested.
have you got any links, costs etc yet?
i am after the type with the black frame rather than the chromed one, and curious about the wipers.
perhaps we should continue this conversation via u2u.....
...................( O \ l / O ).....................
hows this caper going dan?
