At the moment iam looking at at 1974 beetle in reasonable condition. but it has some rust in a couple of spots, 1 on the passenger side next to the rear window and down towards the motor cover(boot) just a few bubbles. 2 on the drivers side about 200mm behind the side window. What is behind these areas that would hide more rust deposits
It has a 1600 motor, what model is it, superbug,1303,1301????

Hi MIke,
It can be a 1303S Super Bug or a standard Beetle....
If it has a flat windscreen its a standard beetle...
If it has the large curved windscreen its a 1303S Super ,
which was called the "L" Beetle in Australia because of the badge on the engine lid....
The 1974 standard beetle came with a 1300cc engine I believe, so Yours is possibly a 1303S.... with 1600cc engine..
You could buy a 1303 in europe with 1300cc engine and the 1303S with the 1600 engine...
Both these models suffer from rust around the rear window and gutter area due to the flow thru ventilation vents, or possibly because of the soundproofing they used in that area to stop the engine noise.... the material seems to suck in moisture and the rust comes thru the metal....
a very common problem with late model beetles....
to stop the rust it needs to be cut out.....
