hi,

I need to get car road ready (it's only a daily driver) but I need to do asap.

Car is in fair condition (great rust wise) but now need to fix.

I need following:
Brake cables.....(looks like pr did it himself, and stuffed it up..brakes look okay...but cable need redoing)
Air intake hoses (all three)
Regulator...(it doesn't seem to be charging properly. And drains out within about 30 minutes when turned off. (I am sure someone has left something on, but cannot find it any ideas?? i can go around with a multimeter, and given how quickly it drains it would appear to be a high voltage light (like headlights) but check the obvious with no sucess....arrghhhhhh! so I think this si a double problem...regulator, please drainage)

I NEED A DECENT WORKSHOP MANUAL....SO GUIDE ME TO THE ONE FOR 1302 SUPER BEETLE, please...i beg u!

I am sure to be able to get this all at one shop, but if someone could guide to where in brissy. I am in CORINDA. NEAR SHERWOOD OXLEY WACOL ETC. I would appreciate any help u can give me.

Tyres...now here's the thing. I have 165r15 on them. I know this is typical for a VW, but try explaining it to a tyre workshop. The fact I am a woman, and blonde does not help me. Apparently I am stupid, and not reading it right. I just need to know who will understand what the hell I am talking about. And yes, I know the numbers missing are the ones that describe the measurement from rim to road, but since I cannot find it anywhere at the moment....please assist.

Either give me the measurement that will fit a stock standard 4 stud pattern super, with no flares, or the palce that can help.

And if it could be a place where I am not going to be treated as STOOOPPPID, that would be even better. I have a really high IQ, but apparently being blonde, with a VW, makes me very very very stooopppidd. I thought it was the other way really...the VW should have shown them just HOW intelliget I was!

ARRRGGGHHHHHHH!

And approx prices will help too! Just so I know if I am getting ripped off.

Cheers

Leons is very good.

i have three manuals for 1302/1303. jsut seem to find them here and there. I know guy used to get in books and he used to have teh 1303 manual. not sure though if he does anymore as hes getting out of wircooled stuff.

try harding european (reginald st rocklea) for the book

tires- i went to 5.5 inch rims and 185/65r 15. i think nakang make a 165r15 and mabye yokohama? mabye try one of the smaller less brandaname places? I go to hornibrook performance for tires. doesn't do std tires, but the service and advice is brillant. and its a long drive to geebung.

You can also try VW & Volvo Centre at 48 Dollis Road Rocklea and for tyres, I get them from Discount Tyre Service at 975 Ipswich Road Moorooka. They are on the left side inbound and the phone is 3892 2766. I think my last set cost me about $90 each tyre and they know about VWs.

Also windscreen rubbers

Okay, the windscreen itself is shot...seven chips and counting, so I need a new windscreen.

I can source it for $200 fitted and warrenty of item/fitting...but the rubbers.

I just thought if u took the window out, you normally replace rubbers, but man said this is not necessarily right. so how do I tell if the rubbers are okay?

Also if their not, where can I get them? Should they be guinene only, or is after market okay?

I am trying to keep costs down, so any ideas gratefully accepted. He is going to try after market, but just so I know I am not being ripped off, what is normal price for them?

Also, pelase keep in mind in about 6-12 months car is coming off road for a complete rebuild, and paint job. This is just to get it going so my brother can borrow it for 6 months.

thanks 4 help...still need ideas about battery/charging problem.

So far I have found:
Guy called Jason, from online windscreens, can fit windscreen, with warrenty for $200.00. He is getting back about rubbers. I will let u know how it turns out, and if I have any problems with this.

Harding Europeon are trying to wind own early beetle parts, and so they aren't ordering anything in for them now (maybe that was the one at cooper plains...eck, will check it again.

Leons was wonderful. and had most of what I needed

They recommended Craig at Tyrepower, who had Kumos for $95.00/each fitted (high end) or mid range for $79.00/each.

Now he and I discussed lose of brother/lose of car Vs cost of tyre....I decided whilst I have three brothers who are annoying as hell and can afford to lose one/two/three of them, the car was a different matter....so will be going for Kumo

And he didn't treat me like a dumb female.....yeahhhhhh!!!! he might have thought it...but he didn't elt it on, and that's all that really matters!!

Now about the regulator, and battery pan....hmmm

How old is the battery? It may need replacing, it might not be holding a charge. I was having a similar problem with mine, bought a new battery and she works a treat now. You should be able to get the battery tested at any place that sells them.

Thanks guys..

I got back from the shops...arms heavy with stuff...wallet lighter.

But I am happy.

I have two back lights (forgot indicator and left front indicator)
Brake cables.
New fuses.
New Hanes manual.

Hoses will come in later in week.

Spoke with the ppl at shop.

They said I am on right track...find what is draining battery first, and then when that is done, check for why it is not fully charging.

I will also need a new front bumper.

Will be checking the elects....I used to work in industry, so know the simple stuff.....but it is the more complex stuff I can't do. i even used to fix old generators/alternators and starters. Have done a numbr of harnesses even.

My biggest problem was not just finding someone who could help...but someone who wouldn't treat me like a complete idiooottt. I know more than just simple words.

So I really like Leons where Colleen treated me like a human...great work guys, actually employing a female to talk to other females.

I know boys know their cars (sexist) but hey, I am not so stupppid I can't work out where the petrol hole thingy is. yes, someone actually described it to me that way.

I have even had ppl tell my old boss they didn't want em working on their car, cause I was a girl. Boss made me do it anyway, and when the ppl arrived back and checked it all...that's when boss told them "the bloke with boobs did the job". he often told ppl I had balls just like the other blokes, problem was god put them on my chest.

I loved that bloke...he was so damned embarassing at times, but mostly it was just great to play with cars. I think I was one of the few sparkies with pink boots and overalls. And a black face. Also, just for fun I was also attending college (15/week) and would have to have a 'kero' bath....just guess, I won't tell u how much that shit burned!

Anyway...gone totally off course.

I really want to thank u all for sending me in the right direction.

cheers

ok simple stuff for checking the battery first disconnect the earth and measure o/c voltage then if your multimeter ha s a 10A range put it in series with the batt to see if there is any current drain if there is pull out fuses 1 at a time till you eliminate it then you know what cct to look in. if no current drain reconnect the earth switch to volts measure the batt with headlights on and if it falls really quickly batt is stuffed
