i finally got my baby layla turnin over with the plugs in!! woohooo!!

i did an engine and gearbox transplant into her from the damaged yellow kombi and when i hooked up the power (no spark or fuel hooked up yet..) she would turn over with the plugs out but not with the plugs in!!! arrrggghhh!!

as i never knew what condition the other engine was in (though it must of been running at the bus it came out of was in an accident!) i was thinkin the worse, that maybe there was internal engine damage...

however on the weekend i cleaned up all the battery wires, terminals, earth strap and contact points on the body and she started turnin over!!! wooohooo!!!

so it was just electrical resistance that was giving me a pain in the ass...yay!!!

now i just gotta hook up the fuel, put back in the dizzy and leads and hopefully get her runnin!!

ill then take her out of me mums front yard and home where i can work on the rust issues every arvo after work....

heaps of beer for me!!!! :beer:beer:beer:beer:beer

I was hopeing to see pics of you driving down the street :thumb
Poor Kombi's must be grow'n roots there!
Did you get the timing/dissy issues sorted? Been running yet?
Don't forget to do an oil change, old stale oil is not the best for your motor.

Not that I can talk, Andy was off the road while I worked on him.

Whoops, meant to say off the road for 12 months above!!!
At least Layla is getting there. It's all worth it once your drivin' down the highway 😉
Will be cool to hear her fire up for the first time. It's a real buzz.

Thanks for the kind words on Andy, it was a struggle at the time, but haven't looked back since. Still got more planned for Andy, but one day. I've been real slack on posting pics, but there are a few here

yeah i reckon i will videotape my first moment with her firing up... i will be peaking and goin mental haahahha:P:P:P:P i'll probably run out of camera power though due to too many false starts hahahaha:P:P

yeah id love to see anymore pics of andys build if you ever have the time, i checked the threads.... what did you paint andys floors with?? do the swivel seats work a treat for you?

i intend on having a big full width bed in the back with only the middle seats in place.. if i get swivel seats it will be great for viewing pleasure 😊blush:P:P hahaaha... i may have a height drama though.. im 6'3 and my head already brushes the roof....

Hehehe, I want to see that video :party

Andy's floor (and all underneath) is a tar based rust preventative. Similar to the body deadeners you can get in a can. It's a concoction made by a paint place, so don't know a brand or anything. It does a good job, but never really sets.
Seats are great, we use it for rainly day's, no need to get outside and a comfy place to sit and waste away the hours with fridge in easy reach :thumb
Yea, height was a problem, but the new seats put it close to stock seat height.

So what to you plan to view in the back when you spin around :duh

so the rust preventative is still a bit soft? ill need to do the same to layla of course, all in due time... im hoping to see into moving the middle seats forward a bit (up to engineer of course) for a bit more length in the bed, so in the gap under it i can have a big massive metal pull out drawer that spans her width and can only be opened when the sliding door is all the way back... the same types of draws they advertise in 4x4 magazines where the guy is standing in them when they are pulled out to show how much weight they can take.. there i can stow away a small burner and bits and pieces of camping equipment without it lookin all messy..

i also plan to run small paper lanterns around the the top of the cabin for a dull light and beachy effect.. will be awesome...

pod i`ve got to finish this thing one day

Yea, seen them pics. Pity on the burnt one, looks like it was a nice one!
The rolled one is just freaky, would have been a fun trip!

Yep, black stuff still soft. With floor mat though you don't notice it anyway.

T2 Kombi's don't work that well with full length bed and middle seat. They're a bit short, which is why most have the fold out bed thingo. I access the storage space there through hatches in the top of the cupboard (under bed). Lots more room that way.
I'll have to send you some pics of how it's set-up. It's a little different to most but has suited us. The best part it's a 15min job to take it all out and have an 8 seater again! Defintely only a 2 people in camping mode though.

yeah havent measured up a full lenght bed vs seat space yet but was thinking along those lines... its all guestimates at this stage until i pull it home and start the real planning.... yeah id love some pics for ideas... i think it was killakornakob who had a great yellow (?) bay on here that had a nice neat setup... wasnt too bad...
