Hey hey,
After another painful weekend [broken clutch cable = hot weather waiting and towing] I'm now considering selling my Type 3 more than i ever have...
Problem is I have no idea how much to realistically assume i could get for her... [Considering all 3 of them that i've bought have been backyard derelicts for $500ish each that i have 'restored' to driveable and cool looking]
My insurance has the market value at $2500. But after searching through the forums all i keep seeing is "for sale" [edited] [edited] etc. etc. so i am interested in knowing what price these things ever sell for?
Its a '71 wagon, black over apricot, like my avatar. Red vinyl interior, stock 1600 [bought recently as a 2y.o reco motor - still has limited warranty] etc. nothing is particualrly perfect - the seats have little rips, the body has some slight rust etc. but overall its a cool looking car.
anyone sold anyhing similar?
ie. not decked out with NOS accessories, and not a stock old farm car... just a low budget resto with rego and a rwc?
thanks
steve
** attached is the car when i first registered it, a little more "used" now, but its still pretty much the same idea.

Okay
well I bought my square for abt$1500, and it didn't have NOS accessories or original wheels. It had visual or indications of rust that I would call usual... as in about $1500 worth of repairs to get the majority of it fixed(I am sure that I will find more). Needed steering fixed and new tyres. The interior needs a bit of work, the liner is in good nick for its age, the cards are a little warped and in one or two places screwed to the door.
But overall I think it was a very good or fair price.
Does that help ?
'Ah, whatever................'
I got my notch for $1100, it was already lowered, original paint, minimal rust (mostly surface), ripped seats, but it drove. I did not need anything to pass rego. However, I changed the shocks (buggered), did a complete tune up, bought wheels and tyres, bought second hand velour seats (sweett 😎 ), and have been doing jobs here and there (replaced accelerator cable when it broke, welded clutch pedal hook when it broke, maintenance, etc). I thought I got a bargain for jsut over $1000, don't forget, these are type 3s, they were the big brother, luxury items of VW at the time compared to beetles (kind of like the passat big brother of the golf).

VW no more... sigh.... well, at least it's a cousin
About 1000 to 1500 realistically. Might be better to get ya mate to steel.........no I wont say that.
The older style 3's are worth more generally speaking to a comparable late.
tis a shame, such good cars, but not enough people know or want them. i am dreaming of one for my next project. great to be able to buy them at such low prices (i got my dads one with only rust in one spot, original paint, gas struts, near perfect interior just no engine for nix) but such a shame for people who choose to sell after spending lots of time and money on them.

that said, ui would have thought yours would be a steal at $2500

Well if Paddo's prise is right I'll take it
Probably just like any other 30 year old second hand car to most. Obviously VW enthusiasts might pay more if it's in good nick and therefore worth the $$$.
I'd pay more for an old VW than an old Corolla for example...
Good luck!

.
Well i went looking at buying a late model type3 last weekend and we never seen anything under $3000.
65 Type3 Notchback
2013 MRK 7 Golf GTI
If registered and not too much work, I reckon $2-2500, but there are a few good one's on the market at the moment, so you might need to wait a while for the new owner.
orrrrite.... thanks for the input guys [and girls?]. Talk of $1500 isnt all that encouraging... and if that's the case i'll probably just end up keeping it and wrapping her in a tarp until i get the urge to drive it again.
But, if i could get the $2500 or so that i think its worth, then i can forsee a sad day ahead where i am 'sans vw'...
...to tell the truth i'm thinking of getting an EH wagon for a while as i come from a long line of holden fans, so the free parts and labour are all too tempting at the moment...
Seems like i need to chase up a rwc, bust out the cut and polish and give her a grease and oil change... may as well have her in her sunday best if i'm going to advertise.
thanks again all... traumin, keep an eye out in the for sale section, cos that'll be the first place i'll advertise.
