The opening page is called 'Living with a VW' and I will share a few snippets of it with you.
'Owning a Volkswagen is unlike owning any other car in the world. You don't just buy a VW for transportation and let it go at that. You actually live the life of a VW owner. Having one of those short, ugly Bugs in your garage can affect your whole attitude about cars, perhaps making an enthusiast out of you, when you never gave a darn about cars before getting the Bug. It can even affect your driving.'
Volkswagen drivers have a reputation for being speed maniacs. Ask anybody who drives a big, North American car what they think about Volkswagens on the freeways, and they will tell you they're driven by a bunch of nuts' .
The reason we have nutty VW drivers goes back to the old days of the 36-hp engine when it was necessary to do a lot of cutting in and out because you didn't dare back off the throttle. If you did, it would take half an hour to get back up to freeway speeds. Nowadays, with 60 horses behind the seat, that excuse no longer applies, but people still drive Voldswagens as if they were trying to escape from a tornado.
There is lots more in the book, but just thought I would give you a taste.
