hey guys... i have a pop top kombi camper and i want to take the poptop off to get red of the rust under neith and replace the rubbers.
can any one tell me what goes into this? or is there a website tellin ya wat to do?
also i would like to know where i can buy the rubbers from and iff i will need to replace the whole roof lining and car interior doing all this.
sorry to be a pain!! but thanks heeps!
dont know about yours, but my poptop was rivveted on, so if that is the case then you can just drill the centres of the rivets out and lift it off.

mine was rivetted too but had peel off the padding along the inside to
get at them then get the padding redone by an upholstery place after
kombi was resprayed
i seen one pop rivveted on too. when they put it back together they replaced all sealing rubber bits with off the shelf by the metre stuff from a v belt and rubber specialist....

or even try clark rubber they have a lot of stuff you'd be surprised

might be able to help you with rubbers.
What conversion have you got??
got any pics?
I've pulled the top of a couple of Campers now, all of them so far have been screwed on...you may have to carefully remove the roof lining to get to all the screws (or even cut it off if it has been glued on 🙁 )
Be careful, the Pop tops are heavier than you think (especially when you still have the lift mech attached), you will probably need some help to get it off the top of the van...unless you are some sort of champion weight lifter :thumb
Also try to do it where there is a minimum of wind - they can make a good kite if a gust gets under them (don't ask me how I know :duh )
If you have any pics of the offending pop top, post them here and we will all be a lot more help (I promise!)

wow thanks for the replys... havent cheked this in a few days.
im not sure of the make of poptop. iv been told its one from VW..... it was bought originaly from Flinkers prestige cars in melbounre ( on your way to the westgate from nepean hwy on the left ) ..... not sure if it is original but.
hear are some pics
sorry they are so big.
Cool, Looks like a great camper!
As mentioned above, find all the rivets or screws (I can't tell which from the pics) and remove them from around the bottom of the canvas - I found that the lift mech will actually travel up further than the canvas will allow, so to avoid tearing the canvas make sure that the pop-top is only partly up so that the canvas has no tension on it.
Once the canvas is free, remove the screws/rivets holding the lift mech to the roof and get your assistant to help you remove the entire top from the roof.
...I'm not entirely sure now (I removed the pop-tops some time ago), but I think that I was able to remove the screws to the lift mech with the pop-top in the lowered position, this meant that the lift mech was nicely tucked up in in the fibreglass top when the top was stored - BUT BE CAREFUL as the lift mech is spring loaded and if it extends whilst it is off the car it could damage something/itself/you - the spring is stronger than you think! Perhaps you could consider tying the mech in the lowered position with some rope/tie wire/heavy duty cable ties or something similar before removing the mounting screws....just a thought. This is all assuming that you can get to the mounting screws with the top in the lowered position.
Perhaps you could take pics as you do it and post them somewhere here (with an explanation of what you have done) so that others may learn from your experiences....?
Good luck,
R 🙂
Edit: Also - Welcome to AVD - I notice that this is your first and second post! Nice to have you along!
