i got the front end of my 61 type 1 (beetle) lowered last weekend and now it has developed a huge knock of the lefthand side and is now driving like a bitch ive made sure everything is very tight and im scared about something falling off while driving her around!

Where did you get it lowered and how did they lower it??
Take it back.....
First thing to check would be your bump stops.... check to see if thats whats making the noise, hopefully thats all it is.
I just had my kombi front beam lowered and the bumpstops were rewelded in a different spot....
Is your beam adjustable? maybe its to low
Ball joints ? you might need new ones..... this could effect the driving

nah me and my mate did it its not to low either still got another 4 inches in her yet! i reckon it is a king pin gonna swap a few things ova 2morra

You must be bottoming out on the bump stops...
The bump stops may be worn thru so its metal to metal...
