Yes that's right, a doodle romp!! It's a place where people show there labradoodles and since I eventually want one and think they are so gorgeous I am going!!

Does anyone own a labradoodle?

I think you might have gone too far...have a bex and a lie down.

As lovely as they are, these "oodle" dogs have become the backbone of the BYB and puppy mill trade so be careful where you buy your puppy from as health issues are being discovered arising from certain lines. It is also quite possible that their breeders haven't properly screened the prospective parents for illnesses or disease, unlike registered purebred breeders do, so any illness will most likely be passed down the bloodline.

Don't be fooled by their designer names, they are still only cross breeds (except with the pricetag of a purebred.) Don't pay an amount you think would be unreasonable for a purebred lab or poodle. I've seen these dogs with a price tag of $1000!

Also (if this is an issue) be aware that the labradoodle can still shed hair. Guidedogs started a breeding program for them to give to allergy sufferers but discovered that the puppy can take on the coat of either breed.

Lastly, as they become more popular don't forget your labradoodle could be waiting in a rescue shelter or the RSPCA for it's forever home :thumb

Good luck!
GO MANLY!!

rice girl has a point... do check out the local rspca first, you never know what you may find.
in the beginning, the universe was created.
this made alot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

I talked to a few breeders up there which was good but I am going to wait a few months yet till I settle into my house. Also rice girl, I do know they are 'crossbreeds', and don't know what you mean by a 'designer name'? I love the look of them and poodles are known to be one of the more intellectual of dogs while labradoors have a good temprament and also love to swim.

It's a good idea though to check rspca but I am not wanting any dog just for the 'designer name' or whatever you call it.

Labradoodles, Cavadoodles, Cockadoodles, Maltpoos ... they sound a lot more fancy then labrador x poodle, cavalier x poodle etc etc. They are marketed with their "designer name" because some people then think they are buying a breed, which they are not.

Not many would consider paying $750-$1000 when knowingly buying a crossbreed.

Just something to remember, as I'm sure you found out when you went along to the open day 🙂

Cheers,

Yes deffinately something to consider, thanx rice girl 🙂 But I hate thinking of dogs as an accessory. I want a dog that I will be able to take camping with me, to VW shows, one that will get along well with other dogs and one that I can take on a daily walk! So after researching the labradoodles I think these lil guys fit the profile of what i want in a dog. I will be opting for a miniture one I think.

xx

Foxy, I know exactly what you mean. I have wanted a dog for so long for the same reasons as you, I pretty much learnt all the stuff I told you in my research. Good luck with it, I'm sure you'll spoil it rotten 🙂

This is the Maltese X Shih Tzu I adopted from a shelter in Sydney.

Her name is Esmay. Isn't she cute 😀

Oooh Esmay is adorable! I can't wait till I find a nice little dog for my partner and I. And we plan to take it to puppy training so it will be socialised young with other dogs and be trained as well! My neighbour actually has a border collie and she is very loyal and friendly.

This is our wonder dog - Ted (Shithead). He has been to puppy school, then obedience training and started agility training. Not a good idea ,the mongrel learn't a little too much! Xmas eve he jumped the bench and paw raided our stash and this is what we found Xmas morning!
