Gday guys I am considering importing some pop out windows to suit my 1970 beetle project. This will be the first major item I have imported and I am unsure, I have not purchased the item yet. The value of the windows is just over the hundred dollar mark without shipping, what determines import tax and how does it work. If the items are posted to your home address who holds the goods and demands tax payment for the items. Basically if I have to pay who do I pay,I am very new to this sort of thing. Also for roughly the amount I am paying what could I expect tax to be for the windows. I hope you guys can help and thankyou for taking your time to read this message. Your help is of great assistance to me. If you do not wish to put a reply on this for whatever reason please u2u me "Harryman" or phone me on 0421 854 440. Ben Dickens :vader

Under $250au usually slips through as it costs more to recover the duty..

If the tax to be collected is less than $50, they don't bother with it. I keep all my orders form overseas under this amount and they come straight through to me without tax.

On the odd occasion it costs more than $250 (this is about the point where tax is payable), the shipping company delivering the goods rings me to get a credit card number to pay the tax before they deliver it to me.

Hope this helps.
