I recently purchased a Type 3 console to wack into my square, but I need to fabricate a new Gear shift boot as it didn't come with one. Does anyone have a photo, or could take one that shows me what it's supposed to look like so I can try and fabricate something that looks Original

Cheers
Johnno

Andy,

Close, but no cigar - Yeah mines a manual...Appreciated your efforts and the pictures tho - interesting to see that the tacho mine came with (which is a little crusty) looks the same as the one in your Auto's cluster - Maybe I should look into getting a new lense for the Tacho I was given and use it

Tacho is original VDO, so if it's the same I guess yours is original also.
VW54's recent sale was a manual, so maybe ask him if he has anymore pics.

Do you also have the seat belt warning light and anything in the other hole?

The gear lever in the auto goes under the consol on the auto, so I guess it's the same for the manual, watch your knuckles when your racing through the gears!

KDFKing on here can get hold of original tacho's if your keen, not cheap though. He's OS currently, so may be slow to respond to a U2U.

Andy, The other orifi in my console are occupied by a seatbelt warning light (which isn't a whole lot of use as I assume I won't be able to get it functional) as well as a cigarette lighter which will be handy to charge my mobilius.

I had a console in a '73 square I owned about ten years ago and I'm sure it had an oil pressure gauge instead of the seatbelt doo dar.

Dallan, that would be cool if you could take a photo, most interested as mine has a rectangular cut out for the boot, but there are some screw holes which indicate some form of shenanigans have taken place at some point :repuke

When I saw the second picture above I thought SWEET - That console has the same Oriface as mine....then the penny dropped - that IS the console I recently purchased :P

So, I'm still chasing a photo of what the gear shift boot is supposed to look like
