Has anyone played around with changing the colour of their dash gauge lights ?

I'm thinking of getting some replacement gauge globes and painting them with red glass paint from a craft shop.

On that note... I USED to have a red light installed out on my front porch...one night round 11PM there was a knock on the front door. I opened the door thinking who the hell would be lobbing round this late and was greeted by a clean cut young looking dude who blurted out "Is this the rub and tug"...... I cracked up laughing, replied "No" and shut the door. My girlfriend and I were in stitches for ages !!

Ruckus,

Yeah, we kinda reckon the poor bugga saw the number plates on my car and in combination with the red light lept to an incorrect assumption 😉 I didn't even think about changing the interior courtesy light to red....you gots me thinking...

Barls, Thats interesting regarding the globes being supplied with caps - where would I purchase this type of globe ?(suitable for Type3)

Mate , I tried to go blue in my stock speedo (beetle) using similar caps to what barls is using only they were autometer (from autobahn) and all I got was a dull green.vdo might work better.

yeah done the color change thing. repco has a narva catalouge that has a range of different sizes & colours. P/No 49952BL "silicon sleeve" I've got a pack here that suits 8.5 mm, but these were for an aftermarket guage, the next size down were the ones i used for standard VW dash bulbs. $3.00 for 1/2 dozen, dirt cheap!!

Thanks all,

As suggested I went to Rip Every Poor C*** Off and purchased new 5mm globes and 5mm Silicon covers. I tried the blue ones and they are indeed Craptacular. The red ones are pretty groovy (more of an orange) and my mate Davo did the deed for me and I now have all red/orange guages.

Cheers dudes

Easiest way is to got to the hobby shop and buy Tamiya clear paint. Comes in red / green /blue /orange and yellow . Best stuff I have ever used. Lasts for ages and you usually only need one coat. Heaps cheaper than glass paint from the craft shop or lens paint from the car parts places.

Cheaper and Easier than a $1.99 for a 5 pack of Silicon lenses that slip straight over in 3 seconds flat and give you a consistent result for each globe?

Me not think so 😉

I took out the direction indicator bulb and put 2 red LEDs in there to show which way I'm turning

a bit more work but I'm very happy with the result!

Anyone got any ideas on how to increase the brightness of dash lights? Lights in my 74 kombi need some help.
