Great work mate.
Heaps of good info there!!
Love the inside of the muffler, very different to what I expected. Neat what they did with the heat riser outlet too!

I see You have been busy cutting things Up.... 🙂🙂
very good job to see inside the ball joints etc....
and the torsion bars etc...

Many of these things We had worked on many times over the years, and didn't really know what was happening or why as We had never seen inside a torsion bar tube or ball joint ....

Grahame, after disecting some Ball joints, do You think its worth drilling a hole for a grease nipple in the end of New Ball joints???
I would really love to fill each one with some nice juicy Lithium based Moly grease, so they will last as long as the originals..... The originals weren't worn out just the boots had disintergrated... they had been greased with moly grease by the previous one owner [vw mechanics wife] & I couldn't find any rubber boots for them.... They were destroyed when they were pressed out with a 50 ton press..
the 10 tonne press wouldn't do the job... so they were tight.
I've replaced everything so I won't have any problems in the future....
I bought an Air Con Compressor on ebay.... I'm going to buy all the other bits New.... so I won't have any problems....
the compressor had only been used for 6 months....
I went to fit the original air cleaner on today and had to cut one of the ends off.... as I have a Weber carby and alternator and that air cleaner wouldn't fit....
I may end up using an early one like you have....

cheers

Hi Lee,
Grahame, after disecting some Ball joints, do You think its worth drilling a hole for a grease nipple in the end of New Ball joints???
The problem is that there is just not enough room to tap for a grease nipple - check the pic of the bottom ball joint.
The metal cap is 2mm thick and is hard up against the nylon.

I couldn't find any rubber boots for them....
I was told that there are some Ford boots that will fit????

I have seen fellows selling all sizes of rubber boots at swap meets... I'll just have to remember next time to take a ball joint & tie rod end... to obtain the correct sizes...

West coast metric list them but no one carries them in Australia... as far as I know...

If kept greased with moly grease - original VW ball joints and tie rod ends would last forever.....
